Why Palestinians should never recognize Israel’s “right to exist”
Edited on Thu May-03-07 04:33 PM by pelsar
But Israel is not a State like any other State. Israel is even more than a fruit of an adulterous relationship; it is an enduring crime against humanity, just as Nazi Germany was a crime against humanity

Recognition of Israel’s right to exist would thus be analogical to the Jews recognizing that the holocaust was morally justified and that the incineration of people in gas chambers was a moral act.

4. A while back I saw a screed about why Israel should just clear the land and throw
every non-Israeli out of Gaza, the Golan, and the West Bank. It made more sense and had more moral justifaction that this POS

6. I think one also needs to read the final paragraph to get the point of the article:
" We are not suggesting that Palestinians shouldn’t deal with the reality of Israel. However, dealing with Israel, even negotiating with it, is one thing, and conferring moral legitimacy on it is an entirely different thing."

one doesnt have to "read the final paragraph to get the point of the article:

the writer made it clear that israel is as bad as the nazis....the guy wrote it several times and there is no need to defend the author.......believing in the palestinian cause does not mean believing in those who think were "like nazis, etc".

if you want a parrallel I dont defend kahanas beliefs....nor should you defend this one. It doesnt get much simpler

8. I wasn't defending the article or the use of such hyperbole

And I think the nazis analogy is outrageous.

Arab peoples have many wonderful qualities. However, understatement is not one of them.

I do however recognize a point the author was getting at. I think it would have been better if he has expressed his view more like this:

"The Zionist colonization of Palestine and the establishment of Israel as a Zionist state had inevitable unfortunate consequences for the Palestinian people convincing most Palestinians that the Zionist project in Palestine was not a positive experience for them".

Arab peoples have many wonderful qualities. However, understatement is not one of them

acceptance of the different arab/palestinian culture is usually a "no no" here, hence i usually avoid getting to specific about it. Infact i agree with you that "hyperbole" is very much part of their culture and the author may very well be one to work with us. (i really dont take his words seriously)

My putting the article up was actually directed at all of those "western liberal ethnocentric" types here that constantly claim that their western values are universal..and apply to the arab/palestinian culture as well. Given that thesis i figured they might have a tough time explaining the article. After all the paper is "independant" (again you and i both know that such a thing doesnt really exist in the palestinian society, or the arab society for that matter, but thats not how its described, so i assume the other posters here will accept independant as comparable to "ha aretz?)

(btw to put things into perspective, kahanas are usually part of the western culture and do mean what they say)
