After the abduction I tried to put together the pieces of the puzzle, but did not quite succeed. I do not know whether anyone in the Palestinian Authority has tried to investigate my abduction. I do know that no one has been arrested for it.

Not the same journalist. Not the same person. But this is not just a matter of Riad Ali. Since my abduction there have been several more abductions of journalists in the Gaza Strip. The kidnappings themselves are widely covered at first and sometimes even elicit a protest from the journalistic community, but no more than that. I have the sense that the media are beginning to relate to abductions as just another news item, which initially grabs front-page headlines and leads the news broadcasts, before being pushed to the back pages and sometimes forgotten

We, the journalists, know that the media are an important tool for the Palestinian people and for these militant groups. The time has come for us to use our doomsday weapon to send one clear message: There is no coverage under the threat of abduction. There is no coverage until Alan Johnston's fate is ascertained.

3. where do i stand?
whenever the "boycott" on israel comes up....my usual response is about consistency: meaning one has the right to boycott, but if one is going to, one should makes ones stand and be consistent:

against israel in general and want to boycott everything that israel produces? fine but dont be the hypocrite: it would include the software/hardware in ones cellphone, computer, medicines etc. One must also be willing to protest when israeli universities team up with the palestinians on some project (say for instance working to increase the food output in the westbank....), boycott all those israeli medical inventions.....

There are partial boycotts...just the universities (brilliant idea...restrict the creation of new ideas), not buying food that is produced in the westbank...i acutally see those as legit (not very smart, but legit).

so we come to this idea: boycotting the palestenians for keeping the journalist?.. I like the idea of it, because it "evens the playing field" it says "one standard", there are calls to boycott israel...now there are calls to boycott the palestinians. Dont "dish it out if you cant take it"...kind of thing.

I am for 'specific boycotts"...meaning not buying gas guzzling cars, i prefer paper over plastic, i wouldnt buy products produced by slave labor (knowing), etc

so in this case, to set forth a standard about not kidnapping journalists because they are journalists?......yes i would say i'm for it.
