Palestinian And Israeli Soccer Stars Play Together In Annual "Peace Game"
Seville, Spain (AHN) - At Seville's Sanchez Pijuan soccer stadium, Palestinian players joined together with the Israeli national team to take on the team from Andalusia in the "Peace Game." The game was organized by the Peres Center for Peace, which was founded in 1997 by the eighth prime minister of Israel, Shimon Peres. The home team won the match 3-1, but the effort received many accolades from the world community, as the players transcended politics through sport.

Peres, now Vice Premier of Israel, was among the crowd of 35,000 people who attended the game. The revenues earned from the match will fund youth programs and schools for Palestinian children.

"I'm very happy to be a part of this match," said coach Avraham Grant to The Jerusalem Post. Grant coaches the Israeli-Palestinian team along with coaches Gamal Hadyda and Guy Levy.

Grant added, "I believe that people on both sides would like to play sports more than anything else and if we can contribute to this cause, we are happy to do so."

3. Very cool- This gives me hope.

Sometimes sports, like music, can transcend the
boundaries of war and bring people together.

This is a great beginning.

Thanks so much for posting this.
