Who were the 2 civilians Israel abducted on 6/24?
During this current debate there has been a fair amount of discussing regarding Israel abducting two Palestinians the day before Hamas kidnapped an Israeli soldier. I have not seen any details on them, though. Does anyone know who they were and why they were taken? I seriously doubt that Israel would kidnap two random, innocent Palestinians. I would be willing to bet they had some connections to terrorism.

1. I don't recall that event either.
Perhaps someone will direct us to an article from that time frame.

2. Do not recall where I read this. Said a doctor and his son
Is there a way to go back and look up things like that? I thought there was a paid site for all that stuff but I do not buy into anything like that. My son was taking some college classes and he had some really great sites to look up things but it was shut to me.

3. Everything I have seen has been AFTER the Hiz'ballah attacks.

I have yet to see one article from that time stating 2 Palestinians were nabbed the day before the Israeli soldier was nabbed. It is so late here/early, and I am not in the mood to scan the web. hopefully a fresher set of eyes will either confirm or shoot this story out of the water.

The interesting thing is that right after the kidnapping of the first Israeli soldier, i don't ever remember a post about 2 Palestinians abducted the day prior and the group down here wouldn't let a "tasty tidbit" like that pass by without posting it here.

On edit: The doctor and son abduction was after the incurion into Gaza because they were supposedly taken from Gaza while the soldiers were there. I think.

6. That is my trouble. This stuff goes on over and over
Like a death of Am. in Iraq. I am never sure I am reading about the same killing or not it goes on so much. This stuff has been going on in the Middle East since I was in high school and the Brits were trying to stop the Jewish people from landing. I got out od HS in the early 50's.

7. You're ooooold!
:) My parents were born in 1950. :)

I understand what you are saying though. It seems like an unending cycle...and it is! However, it is important to sort out what is truth, such as it is, and what is propaganda. The kidnapped Palestinians BEFORE the first Israeli soldier was kidnapped sounds like propaganda. I haven't seen anything that indicates it is accurate. Surely it would have been reported in Arabic press, if not before the abduction of Shalit, certainly while that was playing out.

14. Your right on both
I will have to drag up an Arab paper. I am old but a funny thing my hair has yet to turn gray. I can not make up my mind if it is clean living or God took pity on me because I have such awful hair as it is so fine, so much of it and cow licks all over. So Maybe God said poor women I will not make her gray.

17. They were arrested.
Besides, if they were the "reason" for the kidnapping of the Israeli soldier, wouldn't they have mentioned it?! It has only been brought up by those trying to say it is Israel's fault.

20. Thanks, that is what I suspected
The two "civilians" were terrorists. Those who mention that conveniently fail to mention that. ;)

8. Here you go
From the Observer, 25 June:

"Gaza Strip arrests

Israeli forces have detained two Palestinians, who the army said were Hamas militants, in the Gaza Strip, in what observers said was the first arrest raid in the territory since Israel pulled out of the area a year ago."

12. No
In your haste to absolve Israel of all wrongdoing, you forgot that newspapers are published the next day - so the abduction of the two Palestinians occurred the day before the article was published - June 24.

Noam Chomsky interviewed by
Amy Goodman Democracy Now
July 15, 2006

"Gaza, itself, the latest phase, began on June 24. It was when Israel abducted two Gaza civilians, a doctor and his brother. We don't know their names. You don't know the names of victims. They were taken to Israel, presumably, and nobody knows their fate. The next day, something happened, which we do know about, a lot. Militants in Gaza, probably Islamic Jihad, abducted an Israeli soldier across the border. That's Corporal Gilad Shalit. And that's well known; the first abduction is not. Then followed the escalation of Israeli attacks on Gaza, which I don't have to repeat. It's reported on adequately."

15. how many times has it been written that israel should arrest the shooters?
seems once israel left gaza and the palestenains started shooting kassams over the border (same night)...israel has had little options:

helicopter strikes are deemed a war crime

sonic booms are deemed a war crime

artillary in open fields a war crime

artillary on the shooters in urban areas ..a war crime

so what was the option that was always suggested?..that israel should sneak in to gaza and arrest them....

and when israel does that.....a war crime.

seems to me the sole thing that is not a war crime for israel is let its citizens be killed and terrorized....

however, for those that disagree, im very curious as to other realistic options that were available to israel to stop the kassams?...anybody here have the "guts" to answer the question?

history has shown that my question will be met with silence.....
