Hamas threatens to end ceasefire
The armed wing of the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, has threatened to call off a self-imposed truce.

In a statement on its website, the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigade said Israeli "massacres" had spurred the decision.

Seven people, including three children, died on Friday when Israeli shells hit a beach in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian officials say.

There was no immediate comment from Hamas' political wing, which runs the Palestinian Authority.

Hamas' armed wing posted a message on its website and distributed leaflets declaring the end of a ceasefire that had held since February 2005.

"The Israeli massacres represent a direct opening battle and that means the earthquake in the Zionist cities will resume and the herds of occupiers have no choice but to prepare the coffins or the departing luggage," the statement read.

3. I am looking at that picture on CNN

just profoundly angry

even in that war torn part of the world that woman wanted nothing but for her daughter to have some nice "normal" moments - a happy time bonding with her kid at a picnic.

How is it that the young must always suffer for the vanity and stupidity and brutality of the feuds of their elders?

I don't know why this makes me just shaking mad with rage. We owe the children of this world better than what they are getting from us, all of us.

4. Thanks for putting that picture up, I didn't know how. The thing
that makes me so mad is that Israel's response is equivalent to "ooops". If this had been an Israeli family enjoying a picnic on the beach and "accidentally" killed, the entire global community would be up in arms.

This is totally fubar.

6. Oh?
Counterexample - one year ago, an entire family (the Hatuel family, except for the husband) was killed - shot at point blank range - in the Gaza Strip. Outside the Jewish community, I don't recall any particular international outrage.

7. That's a shame....there should have been. I was hopeful that
upon the removal of settlers from Gaza, there would be a reduction of innocent lives lost. I don't think I will see peace in that area in my lifetime.

8. I really think you're sincere....
and I believe you mean that. It's heartbreaking that ANY innocent civilian dies. Peace is a long way off I'm afraid.

E.U. Condemns Gaza Killing

The European Union condemned Sunday’s killing in Gaza of an Israeli mother and her four daughters.

"The killing of children does not serve any legitimate cause and degrades any purpose which it purports to advance," Irish Foreign Minister Brian Cowen said, speaking for the union.

Tali Hatuel, who was eight months pregnant, was driving with her four daughters down the main road that connects the Gush Katif settlement bloc and a main Gaza border crossing when her station wagon came under fire from Palestinian gunmen in a nearby car.

9. Israel is not cavalier about death to innocents.
Many innocents have been killed in Israel also and I don't recall much outrage from the international community.

On the other hand, much attention is garnered when a Palestinian is killed, as it should be, but why doesn't it work both ways?
