UNRWA: no money for emergency programs in W. Bank, Gaza

By The Associated Press

GENEVA - A month ago, the United Nations relief agency for Palestinians appealed for $102 million for emergency programs in Gaza and the West Bank for the second half of 2003. By Tuesday, it had still not received a penny.

Peter Hansen, head of the UN Relief and Works Agency, said he has confirmed pledges of just $3 million, and even that money has yet to be delivered.

"This was supposed to be a progress report. In fact, it's a report but there's no progress," said Hansen, in Geneva for a seminar on economic recovery in the Palestinian areas. "We appealed for this money to maintain our emergency work. As of now we have received nothing.

1. Donors probably consider it pointless
If Israel continues to harass UNRWA and not let it operate.

2. No wonder...
The document notes that Palestinian terrorists in Israeli custody admitted using UNRWA facilities, equipment, and vehicles to assist in carrying out terror attacks, knowing that UNRWA personnel are able to travel in Israel and Palestinian Authority-controlled areas, as well as in Lebanon, Syria, and elsewhere, without being subjected to security checks.

3. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
UNRWA is subject to security checks, and there have been no (non-fabricated) instances of any UNRWA facility, personnel being used to carry out terror attacks with the knowledge of UNRWA.

Furthermore, I don't take "confessions" extracted by Israeli torturers seriously, and neither should anyone else.

5. Interesting logic
If Arafat is depriving the Palestinians, we also have to deprive the Palestinians.

Genius. Thanks for that (admittedly unoriginal) contribution to progressive politics.
