Palestinian killed in central Gaza

A Palestinian teenager was shot to death early Sunday in the central Gaza Strip near the border with Israel, Palestinian Interior Ministry officials said.

Palestinian security officials originally had said a gunman was killed.

The Israeli army said soldiers identified a Palestinian crawling toward the security fence near the Bureij refugee camp, and shot him.

Hospital officials identified the teen as 16-year-old Hamad Hamdan of Deir el-Balah in southern Gaza.

Interior Ministry officials said they did not know why Hamdan was near the border. Some Palestinians have been shot trying to enter Israel to find work.
