Israel adds to settlements
ISRAEL's Defence Minister, Shaul Mofaz, has approved more than 290 new settlement homes in the West Bank despite Israel's obligation to freeze such construction under a United States-backed peace plan, a newspaper report said yesterday.

The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said Mr Mofaz authorised the settlement construction shortly before he pulled out of a Likud party leadership race and moved to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's centrist Kadima party.

The newspaper said that Mr Mofaz authorised the construction of 200 homes in Maale Adumim, the largest settlement in the West Bank, 40 housing units in Ariel and dozens of homes in Bracha, a settlement near the city of Nablus.

2. Well, I just don't know how they can be so inconsistent.
It's almost as though they were lying about what they were up to ...

3. Right-wing group prepares to build 15 new illegal outposts
<snip>

"A far-right group intends to build fifteen new illegal outposts across the West Bank, it emerged on Thursday. The Loyalists of the Land of Israel (Ne'emanei Eretz Yisrael in Hebrew), a group that has already attempted to build four new illegal outposts in the Sukkot High Holiday in October, intend to carry out their plan mid next week, during the Hanukka festival.

The group is lead by veteran right-wing activists Daniella Weiss, rabbi Moshe Levinger and other activists who were evacuated from Gush Katif in August. They are expected to hold a conference in the West Bank city of Hebron on Tuesday.

Datya Yitzhak, a Gush Katif evacuee, said on behalf of the group that their goal is to encourage the national camp, which after the harsh blow it suffered after the disengagement, is still in a state of shock. "This is the true Zionist reply - continued construction across the land and expansion in Judea, Samaria and the Land of Israel," Yitzhak said.

"This is our way to tell the public and the leadership - there will be no more evacuations," she added."

4. Interesting. Creating facts on the ground that will destroy the chance
for peace, all accomplished by a "centrist".

No mention that this "centrist" party (with the help of Labor and Likud) is also demolishing homes of Palestinians. Somehow the demolishing homes of Palestinians is not the kind violence that is reportable.

5. I think the strategy is we're supposed to be so busy looking at Gaza...
...that we're supposed to totally forget about the West Bank :)
