NRA clout is outgunning Feinstein-Assault weapons ban renewal in doubt
Washington -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein knows the odds are increasingly daunting as she tries to win congressional renewal of her 10-year-old assault weapons ban before it expires Sept. 13, and she warns that if the law lapses "you can expect the market to become flooded'' with such guns as AK-47s and Uzis.

SNIP

Feinstein is searching for another piece of legislation to serve as a vehicle for her amendment, which bans the manufacture and sale of 19 types of semiautomatic weapons and ammunition clips of more than 10 rounds. But there are only about 20 legislative days left in Congress before Sept. 13, and even if the bill passes the Senate, the House Republican leadership has said it won't allow the renewal to come up for a floor vote.

SNIP

Feinstein said the percentage of assault weapons used in crimes has fallen by two-thirds since the legislation took effect. Opponents, using a separate set of statistics, say such weapons were used in 2 percent of violent crimes before 1994, a figure that has remained constant.

SNIP

"Right is on our side. Public opinion is on our side. It's only the sheer power of the gun lobby that stands in the way,'' Feinstein said.

Ummm, yeah right. If public opinion were on your side, you would be able to blow-away the gun lobby...but instead, you can't. I am looking forward to the end of this worthless POS bill...and buying a nice AR15 or other AW}(

Announce how much more gun control you want passed right before the election. Hahah.

We leave it to the wingnuts to explain why Uzis and AK-47 need to be on the market.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but ban-compliant (a.k.a. "post-ban") versions of both have been available since the ban went into effect in 1994.

33. It gets old after a while, doesn't it?
Telling the same people over and over again how they are willingly misrepresenting what the AWB covers?

It's almost as if they want people to think that it applies to AK-47's and Uzis. Couldn't be.

10. Exactly so...
Either the GOP falls in behind Democratic leadership and supports an issue that 70% of voters agree with...or they're revealed as the extremist loons we claim they are.

Those numbers can't possibly be because of the millions of guns we already have.

More guns make us safer!

You'll notice that the same people claiming that a prop gun in a photo op is a menace below are pretending that letting any whacko or thug wander out of a store with a workingweapon does not present a menace.

34. My definition of a "whacko"...
...is a person who can have someone point a rifle at them with their finger on the trigger and a magazine in and not be concerned...because it's an "unloaded prop."

11. Ummmm. Your ignorance is showing - AGAIN
If'n ya wanna pay the taxes, you can buy a nice fully auto AW right now. When the AWB sunsets, yocan still but a nice AW - if you want to pay the taxes. (taxes = license fees) Of course, that's provided you can pass the background check.

The only difference beteen a pre-ban (nice) and post-ban (not so nice, but just as deadly) AR-15 is purely cosmetic, but then you've known and ignored that since I first met you on this board. Hi-cap mags have been and are still readily available for purchase legally throughtout the U.S. Believe me on this if you never believe anything else I write: jobbers and wholesalers manufactured or imported sufficient quantities of hi-cap mags before the AWB went into effect to keep those of us who hate reloading at the range happy for decades to come.

G'head, PM me and I'll give you at least a dozen online LEGAL outlets for hi-cap mags. Ya gotta PM me because the rules prohibit advertising of retail outlets on the open threads.

23. Yup. They're out there.
I sold my last full auto, an M-16 a few years back to a Class 3 dealer.

The ones I really like are the HK 91, 93, and 95. The trigger group is interchangeable, so you just license it. Shift it from one to the other and VOILA! you have a different full-auto toy to play with!

But hey, who is surprised by that?

"The only difference beteen a pre-ban (nice) and post-ban (not so nice, but just as deadly) AR-15 is purely cosmetic"
Better tell town, then...he seems to think he's being deprived of one now....

Of course, the gun lobby itself showed what a pantload that "it';s only cosmetic" claim REALLY was.

"Better tell town, then...he seems to think he's being deprived of one now...."

I haven't avoided purchasing one due to cosmetics, but rather price...and that will be changing shortly.

After the ban, what type of AW are you going to buy bench?

26. It is amazing what blood money would do for scumbags...
if the anti gun scumbags had any money.

"Gee, town...why do you suppose DeLay is fighting to keep this from coming to a vote?"
Gee, bench, because maybe only 15 members of congress want it to pass. If there really were public pressure to get a vote on it, there would be a vote on it.

"Gee, and weren't the trigger happy amongst us telling us that the AWB didn't keep assault weapons off the market. Guess we can see what a pantload THAT statement was..... "

They sure were and still are. Maybe someday you will recognize that not everyone here makes a huge salary (like me), and is excited to know the prices of such fine firearms will soon become more affordable to me.

ps - it is good to see you using words like "pantload" again...I hope to see "cry me a friggen river" soon too...could you do it once, just for me bench:D

7. DiFi is a smart lady (Updated with links for legal Uzis and AKs)
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 04:55 PM by slackmaster
I think she knows damn well the Uzis and AKs never left the market.

This has become an emotional, egoistic issue for her. What a shame to see her sell her party down the river over this:

Here's some real information on pre-ban vs. post-ban semiautomatic AK clones:

http://www.ak-47.net/legal/preban.html

And some information on building a legal post-ban Uzi:

http://www.danddsales.com/firearms.htm

I hope that clears up any misunderstandings about availability of legal semiautomatic Uzis and AKs under the assault weapons "ban".

And upgrade to a more standard configuration later, or you can wait until mid-September and get whatever you want.

Choice is always good.

38. Locking
seriously, all you gun foes and fans I am going to be the big bad authoritarian and start locking these threads. This is Democratic Underground - I understand Sen Feinstein causes you heartburn she is still a Democrat - and actually pretty damn decent despite what you folks would consider a liability in the RKBAs arena.

We all know she handled the weapon wrong. Let it go. It will be healthy for you. The point was made in the first 50 or 60 posts on it.

From here on out posts of such will result in deletion of the post or lock of the thread as inflammatory.

Remember, its D-e-m-o-c-r-a-t-i-c U-n-d-e-r-g-r-o-u-n-d, lets start bitching about someone who really deserves it - like, say, Bush.
