Suspect claims drunkeness may have caused firing of gun
http://www.thenewsstar.com/article/20111125/NEWS01/111125007

Timothy James Jeffcoat, 25, 158 Pine Ridge Dr., West Monroe, was arrested Thursday, after he reportedly fired a gun into the air and threatened a man.

Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a different Pine Ridge Road residence and when they arrived the suspect had run away.

The alleged victim said Jeffcoat was intoxicated and while holding a rifle made a comment that led the victim to believe Jeffcoat was going to hurt him. According to an arrest report, the vicitm said after the suspect made the comments he fired the shots.

Jeffcoat was arrested at his residence and an arrest affidavit stated Jeffcoat had fired the weapon and may have made comments to the victim. Jeffcoat is reported to have said he may have committed those acts because he was drunk.

3. It rarely happens with people who are licensed to carry concealed ...
But in most states such people have passed a better background check than the NICS system used when a person buys a firearm from a dealer.

based on another person's criminal misuse of one

6. Sure, no matter how many are harmed now or in future, we need to pander to your need to carry a gun.

There ought to be a better way -- Like keep your precious guns at home, but leave them there. Public areas are best left unpolluted by guns. Or maybe, let's have straight up votes on whether almost any fool can carry a gun in public. . . . . .every year so big corporate lobby organization can't control the agenda. Finally, ought to be a limit on number of guns one can acquire without some kind of review of situation. Limits on types of guns seem obvious to anyone except those lusting over the "banned" ones.

Just one gun owners opinion in deep red Georgia of whether almost any fool should be allowed to carry in public -- pretty much the situation now.

8. Cribbing from Sinclair Lewis again? You sound like George Babbit on drinking:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=118&topic_id=481763#481911

Sinclair Lewis had guys like you pegged many years ago, as pointed out in Daniel Okrent's excellent Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition

From page 291:

...This view was not confined to the very rich, as Sinclair Lewis demonstrated so vividly in Babbit. During the "canonical rite" (Lewis's term) of cocktail hour at George Babbit's house, one of the solid burghers of Zenith insists that requiring drinkers to be licensed was a much better idea than Prohibition: "Then we could have taken care of the shiftless workman- kept him from drinking- and yet not've interfered with the rights...of fellows like ourselves." Another says, "You don't want to forget prohibition is a mighty good thing for the working-classes. Keeps 'em from wasting their money and lowering their productiveness."

Just ANSWER THE DAMN QUESTION!!!!

23. Autos are for transportation. Carrying a gun in public is hardly the same except to someone trying
Edited on Sun Nov-27-11 05:01 PM by Hoyt

to rationalize their bad habit, love for guns, and disdain for society.

You could ask the same stupid question about carrying grenades.

When someone who can't walk out of their house without several guns, calls me a "coward," I really laugh my ass off.

We (the people) did have that vote. The results were published on 15 December 1791.

16. Greyhound is ready
They'll be happy to transport your happy ass to any gun free paradise you think is better. It's called voting with your feet.

My parents and I did that in 1954 when we left East Germany for the West. By 1961 it had become such a trend they built a Wall to stop that sort of stuff.

17. Why are you amazed?
Drunks do stupid stuff when they are drunk. They always have and they always will. Half wake up in bed with ugly women, and tattoos they didn't know they had. The other half wind up explaining to their kid about Father's Day, "Quit complaining, from what I remember about that party you're lucky you don't bark!"

You do not solve the problem of drunk drivers by taking the keys away from sober people.
