New Jersey is a May-Issue state, and issues permits to residents and non-residents. Out of a population of 8,000,000 people there are less than 1,000 handgun carry permits in the state (including armed professionals other than law enforcement officers). While technically May-Issue under state law, Hawaii, Maryland, and New Jersey and certain cities and counties within California and New York are No-Issue jurisdictions in practice.

something along the lines of how New Jersey is a strongly Democratic state, the people have elected Democrats to their legislature and voted for Obama, la la la la, and how I'm just not seeing anything there that indicates "a tendency toward strong autocratic control" ... and there was something wrong with doing that.

Hawaii ... that's another of those places with a Democratic governor ... two Democrats in the US Senate, two Democrats in the House of Representatives, Democratic majorities in the state Senate and House ... voted overwhelmingly for Obama (okay, hometown boy makes good) ... is there some evidence of "autocratic control" there? by whom??

Maryland ... Democratic governor, Democratic majorities in both houses ... again: ??

What evidence can you offer of this "tendency toward strong autocratic control" in these states? (I'm hoping you understand that autocracy and democracy are actually mutually exclusive, and hoping you can explain what you're saying while you're at it.)

Along with the ideas of hope, change and progress (as in progressivism) the state of New Jersey (and a few others) have remained completely static on the issue of concealed carry. Over the last 30 years 29 states went from "non-issue" or "may-issue" status to "shall-issue" status. Two states went from "non-issue" to "no restrictions". Are over 30 states just wrong?

Well I don't know, but I think government needs to butt-out of marriage all together. New Jersey is one of those places that doesn't allow same-sex marriage and our REPUBLICAN governor wants to pass a Constitutional Amendment against it.
