Gun ownership goes up, violent crime rate goes down.
http://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2011/may/crimes_052311/crime_052311

Preliminary FBI figures reveal that the levels of both violent crime and property crime in the U.S. declined in 2010 from the previous year's data.

The 2010 Preliminary Annual Uniform Crime Report, just released today, shows a 5.5 percent decrease in the number of reported violent crimes when compared with data from 2009. It also shows a 2.8 percent decline in reported property crimes.

24. Gun ownership has skyrocketed ...
Many people who have recently became gun owners are hesitant to reveal to interviewers that they own firearms.

My daughter worked for the census last year and she couldn't get a good number of people to tell her how many people lived in their house. She was amazed at how many people distrust our government.

despite your desperate hopes and wishes, there is absolutely to evidence of a correlation between the two.
IN fact as gun ownership increases the earths temperature rises......hmmmmm. guns are responsible for global warming!!!

You death toy advocates crack me up!

6. cat ownership goes up, violent crime rate goes down. shuttle program ends, crime goes down etc not a

9. No shit?
You do understand that when people talk about this generally on the pro-gun side of this forum, it's not to imply a cause effect relationship? But rather, it is to aid in DISMISSING the implied cause effect relationship on the OTHER side that more guns = MORE crime?

Seriously, not sure how many times this has to get spelled out here.

19. Lower cat ownership = higher crime rates?
I hadn't seen that one posited here lately.

Thanks for bringing you "pet" theory to the group. So if we have more cat ladies the crime rate will continue to fall, great thinking.

Of course if anyone had said something like that you might have a point, but as usual, you don't.

7. Lots of reasons for crime declining -- but it's not more people walking around with guns.

In fact, if the gun culture were rational, they'd realize guns are even less necessary. But, not the case, because folks keep promoting more and more guns.

12. Actually, No. Crime might even be less had we not pumped several million more guns into system.
Edited on Fri Jul-15-11 08:31 AM by Hoyt

We'll just have to deal with the millions more guns you guys are buying, carrying, -- and selling -- down the road.

17. Less necessary
for those who have profited from tax policies of Republicans. Those whose wealth gains have outrun the rest of Americans have less of everything to worry about (except getting enough cheap help to landscape their gated communities ).
