Clerk Being Robbed Pulls Gun, Chases Suspect Out Convenience Store
Danville, VA-- Whether you think it is smart or dangerous, a clerk used his gun and chased an alleged robber out of his store, according to police.

Police in Danville said the incident happened about 11:30 p.m, Friday at the Airport Pure convenience store. Officers said the clerk told them a man wearing a red bandana over his face, pointed a gun at him and demanded money.

The clerk said he drew his own gun, from his waistband and the suspect ran from the store. The clerk chased the man around the building. He said the suspect fired a shot at him, but missed.

The clerk told detectives he responded by firing several shots into the air.

1. While it is always nice that the Good Guy got to go home,
was there something in the story you wanted to discuss?

4. Good for the clerk..
and bad news for the antis...who not only hate to see successful and legal uses of a firearm, but probably would have much preferred that someone be killed..

5. He was wrong to fire shots into the air and wrong to persue.

1. The bad guy will think you are shooting AT him and that his life is in danger. He will act accordingly. You could likely find yourself in a real gun battle when you only meant to scare the BG. If you aren't shooting to hit the BG, DON'T SHOOT AT ALL.

2. What goes up must come down. While the odds that those random falling bullets will injure someone are small, those odds are not zero. Every year people are injured by falling bullets, usually at New Year's.

Further, he should not have persued the BG. The reason to have a gun on you is for self protection, NOT to play cop. Once the BG is running away you are out of danger and have survived the encounter. You have won. Don't push the issue.

7. Clerk needs to get a holster, some training, and brush up on the law
Firing shots into the air is almost never appropriate.
