For all the prattle about how the gun industry controls the NRA
The NRA came down on the side of it's individual members today by knocking out the liability bill because of the AW amendment. If all the nonsense about the deep pockets of the industry were true the liability bill would have passed regardless.

1. Too too funny....
Hilarious to even pretend such a thing....

The bill was dead the second the AWB amendment passed...and the NRA didn't want to risk being on the losing end of thrree consecutive votes..

2. If the industry runs the NRA,
and the NRA runs its senators, why wouldn't it have instructed them to vote for the liability bill regardless of the AW ban? The AW ban doesn't affect the gun industry.

3. Because it would have lost the vote
And it couldn't afford to lose three votes in one day (not to mention the threatened repeal of DC gun laws, which it couldn't even get onto the floor.)

"The AW ban doesn't affect the gun industry"
REALLY? Are you trying to pretend it's the watch and clock industry that makes and imports them assault weapons?

I'd be curious to see how you explain the NRA's support for this disgraceful immunity bill in the first place, since it didn't do a goddamn thing for members while shielding corrupt manufacturers, distributors, and retailers.

4. Because...
...of the VPC’s ingenious plan to finance frivolous civil lawsuit after frivolous civil lawsuit until firearm prices skyrocketed beyond the reach of the average citizen?

With this bill, manufacturers and distributors were still criminally and civilly liable if the product they sold was defective or sold illegally.

What the VPC and the ACLU have been lobbying for in Washington (and funding in the local court sytem of every major city in the US) is gun control via promulgated legal costs (injunctive relief) – you don’t really need that explained to you do you?

(awaiting your typical over-the-top reply in which you accuse me of being a racist, again)

"frivolous civil lawsuit after frivolous civil lawsuit"
<sarcasm>Yeah, by frivolous cities like Gary, Indiana, and Chicago.</sarcasm>

"gun control via promulgated legal costs (injunctive relief) – you don’t really need that explained to you do you?"
No, I know horseshit from the corrupt gun industry when I hear it.

6. That's right - Frivolous lawsuits
Based on a bizarre legal theory in which someone who manufactures a legal product is supposed to have influence over an individual three or more steps down the distribution system.
