Armed business owner chases would-be robber away
Edited on Fri May-20-11 06:01 PM by RamboLiberal
A business owner fought back Thursday when an armed man attempted to rob his nail salon.

The owner of Kim Nails at 224 Stanford Road in Lincolnton didn’t just hand over the cash when a masked man brandishing a handgun demanded it. Rather, the man pulled out a gun and chased the robber out the door, firing several shots at the getaway car as the man fled, according to police.

The would-be robber entered the business through the back door at 6:17 p.m.

“He kicked through the back door. We heard a loud boom. He came in with his ski mask, a gun and a bag. Everybody was scared,” said T.T. Nguyen.

A Gaston County high school student whose family owns a Lincolnton nail salon foiled an attempted armed robbery of the business when he reached into a drawer for his father's gun.

The action was enough to frighten off the intruder who barged in through the back door of Kim Nails, the student's sister, TT Nguyen, said Friday.

By the time her brother handed the gun to their father, Nguyen said, the masked gunman had run back to his vehicle to drive away. She said a second person was driving the van.

But before the van left the parking lot, Nguyen told the Observer, her father fired shots at the vehicle in an attempt to flatten its tires. The vehicle's tires squealed as the driver rushed off, she said.

Firing at the car though I find somewhat reckless. Personally I think better to get license # for cops.

1. Agreed, don't shoot at fleeing car
You are not going to stop it even if you hit it from behind.

2. Firing at escape = big no no
One of the rules of thumb that they taught me when I was taking my CCW class.

When a perp is fleeing they are no longer a threat and you're no longer legally protected if you fire on them.
