So all of us here hate the GOP, Boehner, Palin, Bachman and only disagree.....
on if people should be able to buy, own and carry guns?

Seems like we could be much nicer in discussing this topic!

Just an idea!

1. I feel one should strive for civility
discussing any topic.

Though I will admit that hurling insults is like a drug.

A wonderful gigglefit inducing drug.

Especially when discussing Palin. B|

4. If there is hate, it is hating what they do, rather than hating the persons.
And, when one explains that stopping felons from having guns is gun control, the disagreement turns to be just embarrassed silence. That is, until the subject can be changed and the words are allowed to fly as though nothing said before was heard.

5. Conflating criminals with the law abiding is an issue
In fact we see posts here that conflate DU members with criminals regularly. They typically suggest that concealed carry permit holders are somehow responsible for many criminal acts, even when there is no real support for that claim, beyond some cooked numbers from the Brady group.

10. How do they respond to you telling them that?
If they only continue to do so, sounds like a a good case for the ignore feature.

Either that, or they require constant corrections behind their posts.

7. Actually those who support gun ownership and concealed carry have no reason to be impolite ...
as we can win the argument on facts, statistics, logic and commonsense.

Insults are a tactic usually employed by those who are losing the debate.

8. So far that seems to be true. Even though I think some pro-gun people....
are a little sarcastic.

I think sticking to the facts should be enough.

11. CCW is common sense gun control but it promotes gun ownership which goes against
The agenda of gun control groups which have only one objective which is to remove guns from society and delete our gun culture. They do not care about crime rates. They sound like ignorant fools when the talk in public yet their 5 year plan to remove guns from society appears to be writen by well informed experts on firearms. It's pretty obvious the Brady campaign is a front for a group of fascists who have reason to fear public gun ownership, especially of large powerful rifles that are never used in crime. They are willing to lie, misinform, sensationalize and even ruin lives to achieve their goals.

12. Unfortunately we don't :know" that all here are liberals or even centrists
There is more than enough evidence that some posters in Gun forum are conservative or libertarians.

Even among the liberal gun community there is far too much support of right wing front groups such as the NRA,

While it is nice to say that gun control or lack there of should be a non-partisan issue; the fact remains that it is, very much so.

For all intents and purposes, the gun control debate is over. The conservative position won and the gun control supporters are almost completely marginalized.

Yet the anti-gun control activists are more strident and more fearful of gun control than any time in recent memory. They are also raising money at a greater rate than ever.

I would like to posit that much of those funds get side tract into funding other conservative initiatives and candidates.

This puts liberal gun owners in an interesting position. We are for once on the winning side of a debate, unfortunately that puts us on the same side as the people who are destroying America.

Finally the debate over gun control is just another wedge issue, just like abortion. It diverts attention from the real issue, in this case violent crime, and instead focuses on something which makes the opponents feel both self righteous and aggrieved.

13. Well put.
I hate what the NRA is and says, but the ACLU won't fight for the Second Amendment.

I want a world where the NRA isn't necessary, or sticks to gun safety and running contests, because I can CCW any and everywhere and have a collection of all the main battle rifles used since the Revolutionary war by the US and our opponents. I want Howard Dean and Jerry Brown speaking at their national conventions and anything available to the military also available at a UNIONIZED Wal-Mart :-)

It's always a problem when we think and try to communicate in strictly left<>right terms. There's a hell of a lot of socially liberal fiscally conservative folks, many MANY gun owing Union members and numerous religious folks who actually believe in helping the poor and downtrodden even as they proselytize their faiths.
