Pizza Shop Robbed; Owner Now Wants Workers Armed
Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 06:18 PM by RamboLiberal
The owner of a North Charleroi pizza shop said his workers will begin carrying weapons after the business was robbed at gunpoint on Saturday.

-----

"He walked in and pulled a shotgun out. I was there making the pizza and he said, 'Give me all your money.' He didn't have the gun fully trained on me," said owner Mark Miller. "I picked up a dough tray and went behind there and told my driver, 'Get your cell phone. Call the police. Let's go, let's go!"

Miller said the robber walked out of the front door, got into a car and drove away. He said this was the first time in eight years his business has been targeted by thieves. No injuries were reported, but the owner said he doesn’t want to take any more chances so he’s urging his employees to arm themselves while working.

"I am encouraging my drivers to carry, get a permit, get training and know how to use a weapon to prevent something like this from going on," Miller said. "A well armed public is the greatest deterrent to crime in the world"

Listening to this being discussed local talk radio KDKA. Good for the show owner. Link shows video sign out front "We now Carry"

Wish his shop was in my area. May have to drive over some day and get a pizza to show my support of his decision. His pizzas are well-rated.

4. They really get paid enough to be murdered?
Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 06:38 PM by RamboLiberal
I don't think so! I've also seen the news of quite a number of food delivery drivers being wounded or killed by punks!

Tell that to the family of Paul Bennett.

On Sunday night in Seat Pleasant, MD a pizza deliveryman named Paul Bennett was shot and killed while making a delivery. Paul was approached by three men, who killed him and took the pizza and chicken wings that he was going to deliver.

Or Ghulam Farooq
The lights are out inside the Pizza Boli restaurant on Annapolis Road. The family-run business closed on Sunday after someone robbed and stabbed delivery driver Ghulam Farooq, 46, in the 1800-block of Meade Village Circle in Severn.

17. Agreed. They do not get paid enough to have to deal with armed robbery.

6. My guess
is all shotgun-toting robbers will wait while you pull out your concealed weapon, therefore giving you plenty of time to defend yourself.

11. Shotguns are extremely difficult to conceal. You will see the shotgun as he come in the door.
It is hard for a criminal to keep his eyes on everybody. He will usually focus on the cash register. Somebody else outside of his tunnel vision can draw and fire.

18. My guess
is all those shot in the face will either take the bullet out themselves in the garage AND have it removed at the hospital.

10. If he's requiring armament as a prerequisite for employment (or favoring those who do), I disagree.
Edited on Wed Apr-06-11 10:20 AM by OneTenthofOnePercent
Even if he expects to impose a duty on other employees to use firearms he supplies in the shop (a shotgun under the counter, for example), I disagree. The right to keep and bear is a personal choice... as well as the choice NOT to keep or bear arms.

In my opinion, forcing guns onto others is just as bad as forcing disarmament onto others.

12. Most states he can't require it. Definately not in Texas.
But he can look with greater favor on those who do carry.

13. If I ever worked in a convenience store, gas station or delivered pizza ...
I would carry. I might not tell my boss if I felt he opposed his employees being armed and if he found out he could just fire me. I don't want to be a helpless duck in a shooting gallery.

That doesn't mean that I would whip out my concealed weapon and start blazing away at some fool with a gun that just wanted the money. If I felt that was all he was after and had no intentions to shoot me or someone else, I would gladly turn the money over. I have no desire to be a hero and I'm not a cop.

15. I once worked midnight shift at a C-store.
Company manual said "No Weapons". I bought a Kel-Tec P3AT and kept in my trouser pocket. Manager never knew. About two weeks after I quit the place was robbed, midnight shift. I would not have shot it out over the company's money, but if the guy had appeared unstable then I had some chance to defend myself.

16. Of course if all a robber wants is money and you are a clerk ...
you simply give it to him.

If I worked in a convenience store or delivered pizzas, I would carry to have a chance against the unstable individual who I felt would shoot me when I did give him the money.

The object is to survive, not to protect the owners cash.
