Proposal in House would ease gun laws - to allow guns in restaurants serving alcohol
http://www.fayobserver.com/articles/2011/03/08/1076586?sac=Home

A proposed change to North Carolina's gun laws is designed to scare criminals out of causing trouble in restaurants - it would let the patrons pack heat.

But owners of two popular restaurant bars in Fayetteville say they fear that the change will create a potentially deadly mix of alcohol and firearms.

It's illegal under North Carolina law to carry a gun into any place that serves alcohol. A bill pending in the state House would let people with concealed-carry permits bring their guns.

The restaurant owners still could prohibit weapons if they chose, and the concealed-carry permit holders by law would have to abide by their wishes.

12. That's the way the law has been in Texas since 95.
Hasn't been much of a problem so far.

2. Oh no, not like Washington State!
Still illegal to consume alcohol while carrying a firearm.

Nothing new on this issue. Not a problem in other states.

10. I can't find any state where that is not the case.
That 'no carrying firearms in a place that serves any sort of alcohol' statued is their only law on alcohol and firearms.

14. Let me bust your bubble!
The same law applies here. A person carrying a concealed weapon may be in a restaurant where alcohol is serve, he just can't drink.

NOW, the next time you are out at the Olive Garden you will have to worry: Is the person with the big party two tables over that's been drinking iced tea all night the designated driver or is he packin'?

9. Are you kidding?
The population here has dropped by 50% since they allowed guns in restaurants.

Why the shootouts stemming from arguments over the appropriate level of doneness of your steak (med-rare) and whether or not to use BBQ sauce (only if the Chef screwed up badly) are so frequent that most restaurants get more money selling ammo than they do from food sales.

I myself had to wing a couple of waiters who claimed they didn't have Dr. Pepper on tap.

7. we just restored our rights here in VA last year it's nice.
Now I don't have to travel to WV to dine out with the family.

Of course we've always had the Va tuck option.

Just remember if you're CCin' you can't consume....it's something the fearmongers always fail to mention in their "stories"

8. OMG! They're forcing restaurant owners to admit CHL holders into their establishments?!?!?
And the property owners have no way of stopping this from occurring?

How horrible, how can we force this on those unsuspecting restaurateurs?

Oh right, we can't:The restaurant owners still could prohibit weapons if they chose, and the concealed-carry permit holders by law would have to abide by their wishes.
