Texas CHL Conviction Rate lowest ever
The Texas DPS just released their reports on the number of CHL holders convicted of crimes in both 2008 and 2009.

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_recor...

I took the number of crime convictions and the number of CHL licensees and derives the rate per 100,000 CHL holders.

I took the number of crime convictions by those over 21, and the number of population over 21 and derived the rate per 100,000 general population over 21.

For 2009, the rate for CHL holders is 25 per 100,000 CHL holders. The rate for the general public over 21? 383 per 100,000.

Here's the last 13 years of data graphed out..

6. Thanks, the coverage
of the Wisconsin mess drew me in but this forum is pretty interesting. Considering in the South everyone is pro gun its interesting to post with the city mouse crew where that is not quite the case..

8. You're cherry picking.
Availability of guns and ammo to concealed handgun licensees equals availability to the entire population.

Making them scarce for everyone is the only way to go.

9. If by 'cherry picking' you mean..
.. one of these groups is pretty damned trustworthy compared to the other, then sure.

10. By that reasoning, there is presumably a group who can responsibly use morphine for recreation.
But recreational use of morphine is not tolerated by society.

Let alone anyone patting themselves on the back for it.

11. Really, I like numbers. They do a great job smooshing "from the hip" calls
like that. Hey do you have a 13 year sample with n in the millions to cite.

Me thinks not

14. Just saying, public policy toward a thing deemed dangerous in and of itself.
Despite the possibility that "responsible use" by some can be pleaded.

15. Its all done. There is only going to be removal of restrictions going forward
50 state ccw, including removing laws in chicago and NJ that restrict ammo and gun transport (except by the bribe paying).

Really this is how things are going to go, the days of the gun control = crime control lie are over. DC and S Chicago stand as monuments to that failure.

13. By that reasoning
Not even close. Recreational use of morphine is not accepted ANYWHERE in the US, recreational use of firearms is.

But since when has that stopped the anti gun folk from seeking headlines.

19. Fetish?
You've got to make fun of what you have no control over? Tear it down, make fun of it, call it names because you have absolutely nothing against it except irrational fears and emotions.

21. I have no control over it, and it can kill and cripple me. You bet I condemn gun culture.
It is irrational for anyone to condone it.

18. There is a group that responsibly uses morphine..
.. they're regulated by physicians, under the auspices of the law- much like CHL holders.

20. Recreational users? No.
Pain management patients must be whom you are referring to.

Their morphine use might be compared to guns in the hands of police officers.

CHL programs are just an excuse for guns in the hands of the public. Not good.

22. They are people using it for a legitimate purpose-- pain management or self-defense.
Both are subject to regulation.

I think you're hoist on your own petard, this time, shares.

Availability of computers and the internet to child pornographer equals availability to the entire population.

Making them scarce for everyone is the only way to go.
