Guns Outlawed at Palin Speaking Events
http://my.firedoglake.com/spocko/2011/01/24/guns-outlawed-at-palin-speaking-events/

Half-term ex-Governor Sarah Palin’s next public speaking engagement is Monday, January 24, in the theater of the Lubbock Texas Civic Center. It is a fundraiser for the Lubbock Christian School.

The event was scheduled months before the recent tragedy in Tuscon, but the rules for the Lubbock Civic Center regarding firearms on the premises remain the same. No firearms for law-abiding citizens are allowed. This includes people with conceal carry permits.

If a private security team wants to have firearms they must get permission and coordinate with the Lubbock police department. I asked Julia Gonzalez, the Lubbock Civic Center Event Coordinator, where do the rules come from, and she said, “It’s a city facility, so no firearms are allowed inside the building.” To confirm that I contacted the Lubbock City secretary and got a nice official note back saying, “The city of Lubbock is adhering to the firearms laws of the State of Texas.

Texas republicans want to let people carry guns on college campuses - but at Palin rallies.

I can see the logic

not

3. This seems bogus
If Texas law bans firearms at all state facilities like civic centers as it seems, then neither Palin nor any other Republican is making the call. Sarah is guilty of hypocrisy galore, but not in this particular case.

5. Your cites refer to pre-existing policies.
The event planners are merely complying with those. You seem to be arguing the the pro-RKBA side isn't pursuing its goals aggressively enough. I'm getting that through-the-looking-glass feeling again.

12. The headline is disingenuous
The law has nothing to do with the fact that it's Palin, but the implication is that it is Palin-specific.

It's not you, it's FDL. But it is similar to the term "gun show loophole", which practically states it is specific to gun shows when it is not.

However, I'm sure if somebody proposed making the law on concealed-carry consistent so that people could carry in the Civic Center and the like, we'd get a lot of hand-wringing about how "special" such locations are and how they really should be gun-free.
