A Clifton Springs man was charged after a loaded handgun was found in the trunk of his vehicle at Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua yesterday, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Jesse J. Banke, 26, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. According to Lt. Bill Gallagher with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, the campus police department was alerted that there may be a weapon in a vehicle on school grounds. The sheriff’s department was then brought in for assistance.

Gallagher said they located Banke and his vehicle and he cooperated with the investigation. Police found the gun in his vehicle, which was parked in the north parking lot on campus.

Banke had a valid pistol permit and the weapon was registered to him. However, it is illegal to have gun on grounds used for education purpose, said Gallagher.

2. I wonder how they "were alerted" - was Banke talking about it, or did someone
who knew him decide to exercise a grudge?

3. They lacked probable cause to search unless he volunteered information
What part about "never talk to the police" don't some people understand
