Bill offering leniency for guns at school stopped (MT)
http://www.necn.com/02/18/11/Bill-to-allow-guns-on-school-grounds-get/landing_politics.html?&blockID=3&apID=07668cdd66c54725994bb099f1d658c4

A House committee stopped a bill Friday to make allowances for bringing guns on school grounds, as concerns over guns at schools trumped worries that students were being treated too harshly for leaving hunting rifles in their cars.

House Bill 558, which was tabled in committee, would have no longer made it a requirement to expel a student who brings a gun to school and proposed that guns locked in a vehicle on school grounds do not qualify as a violation.

Republican moran Rep. Jerry O'Neil of Columbia Falls who sponsored the bill said the measure was about fixing broken Montana gun laws.

The bill follows outcry over the suspension of Demari DeReu a Columbia Falls High School student, after she brought an unloaded rifle to school in the trunk of her car in December. Some people at the time argued that giving leeway for guns on school grounds makes sense for many Montanans' outdoor lifestyles. Those in opposition say there are some places where guns just don't belong, especially schools.

1. The crazed with power Texas leg is about to pass a bill...
... making concealed carry legal on campuses.

First, forced sonograms for all pregnant women, and now gun carry
on college campuses.

We are truly insane in Texas.

It's hard to believe that doctors will tolerate such heavyhanded government
intrusion in how they must practice medicine in the privacy of their own
offices. But they are mostly rich and probably vote Reep anyway. The whole
thing sucks.

11. Do please explain how freedom to chose comes from "crazed with power"....
and how that relates to forced sonograms.

This should be good....

5. It would be nice if the claim that "there are some places where guns just don't belong"
was ever backed up with genuine reasoning. In the case of the article, there are quite rational reasons why students would lock up a rifle in the trunk (as the federal law recognizes) and I would think that those in favor of the restriction would want (at least try?) to show how the restriction provides a social benefit...
