A proposal to ban selling toy guns to children is getting a hearing in the Senate.

The Senate Commerce and Consumer Protection Committee is scheduled to consider the bill Tuesday.

The measure would make it illegal to sell toy guns to anyone under 18 years old, punishable by a maximum fine of $2,000 and 90 days imprisonment.

Toy guns could include everything from water pistols to BB guns. The legislation doesn't provide a definition for a toy gun.

I raised two boys and refused to buy toy guns for them. End result is that one of them grew up to be obsessed with guns and now owns an arsenal. But he's very safety conscious. And now I have someone to ask whenever I have a firearms question.

During the same period when I made my shabby little gun rack (for my guns)using a circular ,band, and table saw, sanders , etc. (10-12 years old) I also made a shabby little wooden M2 that rode around on my knees in the back of Mom's yellow and wood grain 77 Pinto . If you sit with your back against the seat facing rearward you have a nearly 180 degree firing arc .
