Purchasing a gun should require a mental health assessment
Owning a gun should require a new assessment every 3 years. Just sayin'.

1. Agreed. We should require one for voter registration as well. And for welfare or food stamps.
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 07:45 PM by slackmaster
The only question I have is:

Who is competent to make such an assessment?

29. But only on public roads.
You only need a license to drive on public roads. If you operate a vehicle on private property, you do not need any paperwork at all.

Firearms are much the same way in most places.

where your future, is now...

Firearms Licensing

What you need before applying

A completed Firearm Application. Download the application here.
*

Doctor's letter stating mental and physical status.
*

http://www.townofnorthandover.com/Pages/NAndoverMA_Police/firearms

Let me just state, that requiring a letter from your doctor is not, part of Massachusetts General Law when applying for a firearms license.

However... due to the language of the States "may issue" firearms licensing... the issuing authority (Chief of Police), has broad discretion in setting standards and requirements before issuing said license.

Fortunately... that standard has since been withdrawn.

As best as I can recall... there are at least 2 other PD's that have a similar requirement.

If that's not angering enough... up until a few years ago, there was another Police Chief that required proof of employment as a condition before issuing a license.

16. They have not learned yet that pushing positions favored by less
than 30% of the country is not usually a good electoral stratigy. If anything can lose the Senate and Presidency for Democrats, a serious push for gun control proposals like the one in the OP(even if likely unsuccessful) is it.

Should require passing three tests... a literacy, a civics, and a history test.

Maybe we can add a fee to be able to vote, too, while we're at it. Just to cover the other taxpayer's costs involved with your voting.

See how easy that was?
