accused of shooting a civilian and two law enforcement officers
"White's 3- to 4-acre property was littered with trash and included a trailer, abandoned vehicles and a dirt mound, which Barton described as fortress-like and equipped with trenches and "fighting positions. He pretty much lived off the grid," Barton said....White "has a history of not liking law enforcement. doesn't like what it stands for in general and sees it as a threat to his rights."

really gungion mod? That's laughable. Do we now place all the "good" shooting posts in the state forums where they happened? You bet I will alert on every one of them if that is the case.

3. So alerted....
I didn't think this should have been moved either. It's a national story.

4. Good...
Frankly I have been getting sick of stories on both sides of the fence.

These types of posts prove nothing. They are just anecdotal stories that have no bearing on the big picture. One story about a criminal shooting does not prove guns are bad, and one story about a self defense shooting do not prove that guns are good.

8. I have made comments in the past on both sides.
Generally I stay out of both of them, until there is something to discuss as far as policy from my viewpoint or I cannot resist being sarcastic, or making a joke. I used to be just as guilty of posting the stories. For a short period I would actually just wrap up a whole month's worth of stories, but the discussion was aimed more at national media and how they ignore such stories, thus perpetuating "gunz are bad and only used in crime" chant that they have been on for decades now. I have since stopped those types of posts and generally stick to policy viewpoint posts.

So... As of this point, this thread really has no policy discussions going, nor is there anywhere to make a sarcastic remark, or a joke. Would you have any specific policy changes in relation to your Original Post?

13. any number of policy questions
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 05:49 PM by MichaelHarris
could be discussed with the OP, the reason I don't is simple. The members of this forum will actually attack the truth! What I mean to say is, I post just the fact, no commentary, just what the news article reports. The members of this forum actually want to fight and argue a news story! Not any commentary from me.

Silly? Sure it is. If this was the anti-color green forum and I posted a photo of grass they would attack the post because it went against their ideas. Read the comments to my OP. Do they attack me or the actual quote from the news article?

Now as to your desire for policy points. Can you infer any from the OP? Are militia groups on the rise and is it easier for them to get sophisticated weaponry since the Clinton admin? Does this shooter have a criminal record? Where did his weapons come from? One earlier report said he even had hand grenades, it has since disappeared so I didn't include it.

Do members of his community have a real fear of people like him, i.e. McVey? Is America doing enough in monitoring the amounts of weaponry members of known militant groups purchase? Can we even attempt that type of information collection in light of recent 2nd amendment rulings? Is the NRA actually hurting law enforcement monitoring these groups?

See if the forum members attack actual news stories with no commentary from the poster because they don't like the facts then what will they do with real questions? I will only post the stories, they never want to actually discuss even those. Yes, the grass is green sometimes, yes guns are being purchased by criminals, and yes concealed weapons holders do kill people for no reason.

14. You don't hesitate to promulgate innuendo and unfounded assertions as fact.. why stop now?
Oh wait, you didn't stop..

Yes, the grass is green sometimes, yes guns are being purchased by criminals, and yes concealed weapons holders do kill people for no reason.

That's a lovely straw man you've made there. Did you stuff his backside yourself?

Who here has ever said that all concealed carry licensees are angels? Please, find me one quote, by anyone not on your side, saying that as sarcasm.

9. Been done
Sharesunited already had a thread going on this incident: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=118x339893

There seems to be a sense of self-importance among gun control advocates that causes them to think that nobody else might have already started a thread on the topic.
