Pro-gun rights advocates turn fear into confidence (Ohio)
As evidence supporting permissive gun laws and legal concealed carry mounts, the Ohio anti-gun movement's shrill ravings and outlandish antics are a clear indication of desperation. Recent press releases by anti-gun organizations called for closing a mythical "terrorist loophole," have labeled proponents of the Second Amendment as violent insurrectionists and promised, yet again, that the current proposed pro-gun reform will cause a return to the Wild West. Despite their zeal, the anti-gun leadership failed to offer a single piece of viable evidence that a "terrorist loophole" exists, or that all pro-gun Americans are plotting a violent revolution.

In recent months, they've trotted out nearly all of their emotion-based arguments, including the image of dead children and terrorists and criminals obtaining guns at gun shows and permissive gun laws leading to "Gunageddon."

When the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment does confirm an individual right to bear arms, the anti-gun lobby immediately pointed out that it doesn't mean gun rights are absolute, and they are right. To determine how rights are regulated, however, requires some type of credible threat to public safety, or requires proof that exercising a right in a particular manner damages society as a whole.

A fact not in dispute is that over the last thirty years, while gun ownership goes up and more people are carrying guns than ever before, gun crime and gun accidents continue to drop.

1. It's a non-issue in Ohio.
The state has some fairly sensible gun laws. There are some who would complain about the magazine capacity limit, 30 rounds, but that's really as close as it gets to draconian. The thirty round limit is probably Constitutionally sound since that's the standard magazine used by all branches of our military.

2. It may be a non-issue
But this article points out the levels to which the anti-gun lobby in that state will resort to further restrict guns, gun ownership and CCW.

3. Good luck getting anything signed by the Governor.

You'll notice the Gov. Strickland's hunting clothes are not the shiny new ones typically worn just for photo ops. He's one of us.

4. As an Ohioian I see little
support for more laws. However, the pro gun rights people go over board to the point of paranoia trying to find it.

I did see that CCWs are way up in Lucas County and so is gun violence and murders. The same is true in Detroit. That is why I caution those that use the increase in gun ownership and the number of CCWs issued with a decline in gun violence. That argument leaves open stricter gun laws if crime does go up. Correlations can be dangerous to use as an argument as there can be many confounds to any study.

5. There's no 30 round limit in ohio.
a) There is an ORC restriction on "machine guns" - they are illegal UNLESS registered federally in some way (NFA).

b) There is another section of ORC that classifies any gun capable of shooting more than 31 rounds consecutively without manipulation or reloading as a machinegun regardless of select fire functionality. So 30+ round mags are legal to buy and legal own in ohio but you just can't load them up and insert them into a gun.

So how do you legally USE 30+ round magazines in Ohio? NFA registration loophole.
Register the firearm you plan on using with the BATFE pursuant to the NFA (SBR, SBS, AOW, DD, or MG).
I have a whole box of 32-50 round magazines that all get used... legally. B-)

6. If you need more than 30 rounds
you need to spend some more time at the range.

8.  It is all in the numbers.
one 30rd mag +1 in the pipe = 31

"b) There is another section of ORC that classifies any gun capable of shooting more than 31 rounds consecutively without manipulation or reloading as a machinegun regardless of select fire functionality. "

Unless you can load MORE than 30rds in a 30rd mag there is no problem.

Glad I live in Texas.
