More of the same from Seattle
Seattle’s mayor wants law changed so he can make own rules

Freshman Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn has dispelled any doubt that he is a disciple of far left liberal politics with his reaction to Seattle’s expected loss in court Friday over the illegal parks gun ban.
He wants the legislature to change this state’s 26-year-old preemption statute just so the city can institute the ban that Superior Court Judge Catherine Shaffer just voided. McGinn evidently drinks the same water as ousted former Mayor Greg Nickels, under whose arrogant mismanagement the ban was adopted last fall.
“It’s time for the state Legislature to change that law,” McGinn declared.

No comment, not my state. McGinn is a Democrat.

1. LOL Good luck with that..
The national tide is for far less gun control, not more...

Seattle needs to get with the program.

3. It is my state, so I have comment

Namely this: McGinn can go fuck himself, Democrat or not.

Even if RCW 9.41.290-300 were repealed, there's still the minor issue of Article I, Section 24 of the state constitution (http://www.leg.wa.gov/lawsandagencyrules/pages/constitution.aspx):
The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men.

Bolding mine.

Moreover, the notion that local governments should be allowed to ignore state law they don't like potentially sets a very dangerous precedent. What's there to stop city governments in eastern Washington from deciding that they won't recognize the domestic partnerships established under state law?

5. Not gonna happen.
Not like this is the first time it's come up either.

We have a decently liberal legislature in this state, but this is a non-starter.
