I got those numbers from wikipedia, so I don't totally trust them. Does anybody have good info on how many permits there are in the whole U.S.

1. figuring the aged population of Fl, I'd say lots of them were dead after 20 years!
I wouldn't be surprised that many that were issued 10 year ago are no longer in effect because the holder died. I doubt Fl. is much diff. thtn any other State.

To bad for you that violent crime has gone down, it is not convenient for you. You could get another hobby, like try to have the 1st amendment violated. You probably are. lol

So frequently, that these links are abundant.

Why am I not comforted by your statistical triumph?

12. "Why am I not comforted by your statistical triumph?" - because you're arguing from emotion?
Because you're letting your emotion prevail over rationality?

Because you don't have the sense to debate without falling back on one liners and argumentum ad populum? Hell, giving you the benefit of the doubt and calling your rantings a debate is being generous. Care to raise the level of discourse and actually put more than 30 seconds of thought into your next post?

14. Because you are emotional instead of being rational.
You want to ignore the fact that sometimes guns save the good guys. You want the good guys left defenseless against bigger and stronger bad guys, just because you have a personal issue with guns. Their blood for your faith.

24. You should write a gorey novel.
Though all of the emotional blood-in-the-streets fantasies you've wished for haven't come to fruition, you'd probably still sell a few copies.

16. Shares, you just posted a bunch of links that didn't deal with legal concealed carry ...
The original post referred to the number of concealed weapons permits issued.

People who have concealed weapons permits in Florida rarely commit any crimes with their firearms. In the period of time between October 1, 1987 - January 31, 2010 a total of 1,704,624 carry permits were issue and 692,621 licenses are currently valid.

A total of 167 licenses have been revoked for a crime committed with a firearm after the license was issued.

Info from the Florida Concealed Weapon / Firearm Summary Report published by the Florida Division of Licensing at:
http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/stats/cw_monthly.html

While people who hold Florida Concealed Weapons Permits are not angels, they are an elite group among gun owners in Florida.

21. Not surprising. My own research shows guns are irrelevant.
I haven't been able to find any consistent pattern either way. Some places that have strict gun laws are very violent and dangerous places. Same with places that don't have strict gun laws.

Really, it only makes a difference for the law abiding citizen who wants to carry a gun for protection. In Florida they have an option to defend themselves. In D.C. they don't.

13. Best estimates are around 5 million CCW holders, nationally.
Many states don't publish the statistics so it is somewhat hard to tell.

28. I think 5 million is very low. There are probably a million at least just here
in PA, probably close to half a million even in a restrictive state like New York. I'd imaging the total figure is closer to 10 million. The figures should remain private, IMO - it's none of anyone's business.
