Police: Fed-up homeowner shoots robbery suspects, then self in foot
HOUSTON—Neighbors of a homeowner who fatally shot a would-be robber and wounded another are rallying to the man’s defense as police continue to probe what happened. The gunfire erupted around 1:30 a.m. Thursday outside a house on the corner of Ansbury and Ella Drive in northwest Houston.

“Around here there are a lot of burglaries and thefts and stuff like that,” said Maria Lopez, who lives across the street from where the gunfire took place. “Sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

Authorities say 58-year-old Alex Suarez confronted the male and female suspect as they attempted to steal tools from the back of his pickup truck. During the struggle, Suarez shot both suspects and accidentally shot himself in the foot. The male suspect died at the hospital. The female is in fair condition.

The case will eventually be turned over to a Harris County grand jury.

To steal a sterio is bad, but to steal the tools you need to make a living is worse!! Referal to a Grand Jury is SOP in Texas.

2. Tool theft is a very big deal in my book...
Been in the trades nearly all my life and you are screwed without your tools.

4. The video shows that the truck had a steel padlocked toolbox mounted in the rear.
That's for those not familiar with with pickup toolboxes and might mistakenly think that the tools were just laying in the bed of the truck.

5. "During the struggle..." Sounds like aggravated robbery.
This alone may mean the shooting was justified.

6. Was he?
Fed up because of the break in, or that he shot himself in the foot?

7. Hope he gets off.
And hope the female thief doesn't turn around and sue him. This is Texas, so there will most likely be an actual reasonable jury and not a bunch of hysterical gun hating loons.
