Robbery Victim Fatally Shoots Suspect in W. Oak Lane
Philadelphia homicide detectives are investigating a shooting death of an unidentified man around midnight in the city's Ogontz section of West Oak Lane. In this case it was the victim of a would-be robbery that turned the tables around on an armed bandit.

The armed robber was shot when he tried to rob to his victim. The incident took place in the 6400 block of north 15th street in the city's Ogontz section in West Oak Lane.

The 24-year-old armed suspect was pronounced dead at the scene of a chest wound. Police say the victim who he had targeted to rob was carrying a hand gun. When the suspect demanded all his money, the victim pulled out a gun and fired a shot killing the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

1. Was the robber armed?
I would have gone for a leg shot, unless the guy had a gun.

6. Leg shot? Bad idea
Discharging a firearm constitutes use of lethal force, regardless of what you're aiming for. If you're not justified running the risk of killing your assailant by aiming for the center of mass, you're not justified in shooting at all. And if the situation is serious enough that you legitimately need to resort to lethal force to stop the guy, you can't be messing around with "shooting to wound."

You shoot to stop, or you don't shoot at all.

8. Absolutely true.
Shooting to wound is Hollywood stuff. In real life, if it can be proven that you deliberately shot to wound, it can be used against you to prove that you didn't need to shoot at all, and you go to jail.

Or you can have misjudged the situation and get yourself killed.

ALWAYS, shoot to stop by aiming at the center mass.

11.  And even if you shoot him in the leg
A fit on the femoral artery means that he will bleed out in 5-10 minuets.

9. The guy did the right thing
This man did the correct thing. He had a permit to carry a concealed weapon and he defended his life. If anyone on this forum has every spent any time in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia you will understand why carrying a concealed weapon is not a bad idea. People are shot in that neighborhood constantly. Last year, a police officer was murdered there. The neighborhood is infested with drugs, gangs and many of the people there are desperate.

It sucks that someone had to die but this man could easily have been killed judging from past crimes in that area.

Concealed weapon on a responsible person = a safe person.
