Englewood is a Chicago neighborhood with about 40,000 residents, and a large amount of gang crime.

As with the rest of Chicago, It's illegal to register and own a handgun.

A man critically wounded during a Tuesday night shooting in the South Side’s Englewood community died early Wednesday.

Marvin Poole, 36, of the 7000 block of South Clyde Avenue, was shot on the 6900 block of South Hermitage Avenue and was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Poole was shot about 10:40 p.m. when a gunman approached him as he stood in the street and fired shots, Greer said.

Police said Poole was in an argument with the shooter prior to the attack. The shooter ran away after the shooting.

If they came from outside the city, it would appear the Chicago gun ban is useless.


The guns in Chicago are of the same type and manufacture as the guns sold in Alaska, Florida, New Hampshire and Nevada. The difference between use and misuse lies in the criminals, not the tool.

Chicago also has a graffiti problem. Again their answer was a ban. In 1992 a law was past banning the sale of spray paint to civilians in Chicago. It was overturned in a court case a year later. Now you need to be 21 to buy spray paint.

you can only use it in certain areas (I don't believe that there really has to be a law forbidding you to drive a car down the hall and into a kitchen, but ...), you have to follow the traffic laws (can't go southbound in a northbound lane), you can't use it drunk (if you're caught) ...

all the laws regarding cars relate to using them on public property, the roads.

If you are driving on private property, such as a farm, or private track, you can drive without a license, drive drunk, or at 140 mph, all without insurance.

Chicago bans ownership and possession of handguns on private property as well as public property.

And lets not forget the difference between rights and privileges. Ownership and use of arms is a right. Driving on public streets is not.

and the point in # 4 was that the auto dealers can be jailed for all the DUIs ... which, apparently, would be on the streets, according to you ... not on private property (which would be my point that there's no law against driving down the hall and into the kitchen ... that's private property ...)

without insurance, license and registration. The cars stay on their property. When they drive the car off the property, the regulations begin.

I have guns without insurance, license and registration. The guns stay on my property. When I take the guns off the property, I come under many more regulations than those for automobiles.

The guns come from somewhere. Either they're purchased legally, or they're purchased illegally, or they're stolen. Somewhere along the way there are "responsible gun owners" that aren't being so responsible, and because of this people are being killed.
