One more we sometimes forget......
Three Men Killed in Winnemucca Shooting on Sunday

Investigators say a feud between two local families is behind the early-morning shooting inside the bar. Three men from Winnemucca died from gunshot wounds, and two others are in critical condition at the hospital.

Deputies say about 2:25 a.m., 30-year-old Ernesto Villa Gomez walked into the bar and starting shooting. 20-year-old Jose Torres and his 19-year-old brother Margarito Torres were killed. When Villa Gomez was reloading his semi-automatic gun, a man from Reno took out a gun and shot Villa Gomez. That man has a concealed weapons permit.

The unidentified man who shot Villa Gomez is not expected to be charged in this incident; law enforcement call it a justifiable homicide.

Clearly the loss of life is tragic and my sympathies to the victims and the families of the lost. I find it interesting though that contrary to popular opinion the the CCW permit holder was able to control his overwhelming fear and overcome his "male" inadequacies and take cover till an opportunity presented itself then mitigate the threat without killing a multitude of innocent bystanders and school children that must have been standing in the line of fire. On a serious note if this had been an off duty cop he would have been given a medal at the White House. However since is was a frightened male with obvious inadequacies this story somehow missed the attention of the national media, that seems odd to me.

1. Family feud, ending in murder, because guns are so readily available.

2. And further violence was stopped because a law abiding man was armed.

7. What do you propose to do about it?
While respecting the current interpretation of the 2nd Amendment of course.

5. so where the hell is this "Winnemucca"?

Someplace where it's legal to tote a gun into a bar, I guess.

Also, apparently, a place where school children frequent bars.

Somewhat unlike many places in the US in both respects, I gather.

6. Come on Iverglas you haven't grown dense in your absence have you?
Clearly the school children was a joke. Because it's always about the children. It's legal to tote a gun in a bar in a few states. Some states don't allow people who are carrying to also drink, it just depends on the state. If you had looked at the link you wouldn't have had to ask.

11. Winnemucca's in north-central Nevada
Which tells you a fair amount about what's legal right there. The municipal code has provisions regarding brothel licenses. Cool.

The Nevada Revised Statutes prohibit possession of a firearm while "under the influence" (BAC of 0.10% or over, or controlled substances, or a combination of alcohol and controlled substances), but doesn't prohibit possession in bars.

The NRS also prohibits persons under 21 from "loitering" in establishments serving alcohol other than restaurants (I'm paraphrasing), but the 19 and 20 year-old victims may just have been using false ID in time-honored American tradition.

8. I know one thing....
...if I had been sitting in that bar, I would be kind of glad the cc was there. It would be interesting to have a conversation with someone in this bar who wasn't. Thanks.

9. The man from Reno did the right thing.
He used his firearm to end further violence. I applaud him.

(Just have to say it, "The man from Reno" sounds like a great country song.)

10. Didn't you once shoot a man in Reno?
Just to watch him die? Or was that Johnny Cash?

13. ZOMG!!!! A chl holder stopped further violence with his own
handgun that wasn't taken away from him like others say will happen if you carry. And it also turns out that the chl holder is a good shot. What happened to the "shaking" hands syndrome that others say you will have if you use your handgun???? :sarcasm:

16. A man took care of himself. Welcome to America.
Maybe we can end all violence world wide.

Or we can prepare for the worst, and hope for the best. I'll stick with reality.
