Knob Creek makes the WSJ...

BTW, the thing he says looked like a schoolbus wasn't a schoolbus, it was an old RV. And I REALLY feel sorry for anybody who has to RENT a full auto gun. $55 for 50 rounds of 7.92? That runs $.06 a round in bulk.

The Walll Steet Journal is considered one of the most right wing pro-Republican papers in the country...

During the Clinton years, they were one of the nation's biggest purveyors of lies and horseshit.

Pretty accurate summary of the event and the tone of things when you are there, WSJ editorial prejudice nonwithstanding.

Knob Creek is the largest and most famous machine gun get together, but they have a few others around the country. You can bring your own hearing protection or buy or rent some when you get there. You'll need it, trust me.

Flame throwers always scared the crap out of me but being able to fire a M-2 .50 again or an M-60 was a nostalgia trip for me and a few other old birds like myself. I keep expecting to run into guys from my old Cav unit when I'm there but there are plenty of veterans and younger folks as well. A lot of families show up too.

It is worth the drive IMHO. Bring your camera too. You'll definitely want a picture of you shooting an old Thompson for the mantel when your Mother-in-Law comes over.

6. By the way...
"This is a good point to note that although I appeared friendly in my NRA ball cap and eager grin, folks here were naturally skeptical of a reporter. They'd been burned too often by TV reporters who come to these shows once a decade and find the tiny percentage of attendees wearing Nazi uniforms or spewing some hokum about the Trilateral Commission. They then go back to their New York editing rooms and paint these extremists as indicative of the "gun culture." But after just five minutes here, it was clear that there's nothing more extreme about these people and their love of guns than the folks who travel the world over collecting Hummels or salt shakers."

Gee, I wonder just how many people at the Hummel Collector's festival are toddling around wearing Nazi uniforms?

Sorry, that doesn't work. Note the phrase "tiny percentage" being used to describe the atendees wearing the uniform. Obviously the writer was comparing the Hummel Collectors to the people not in the "tiny percentage".

Why are there ANY attendees wearing Nazi uniforms any place decent people are gathering? Do you think there's anybody on this board who HAS TO say "I went to the Molly Ivins book sgining last night and there were only a few people in Nazi uniforms among the audience..."

And terrorists cannot say that America has been brought down. I have never stated that I hate antigun people, I have always said that antigunners have a right to their feelings, the few antigunners on here understand that and argue facts and not resort to name calling.

A toast to the post.

I dislike hate-filled people too but feel some compassion (perhaps pity) for them.

Usually if you look at them closely you'll find there is some underlying reason for their hatred - They were brought up badly, they were abused by someone they perceive to be a member of the group they hate, or they are just plain ignorant.

28. Well...if you'd ever been there...
You'd know that a LOT of historical re-enactors go there. It's not unusual to see people wandering around in WWII era German, American, British, and Soviet uniforms. Sometimes, if you pay close attention, you'll see the same guy wearing different country's uniforms each day of the show...this past weekend, I saw the same guy wandering around Friday in a WWII US uniform, Saturday in a Wehrmacht uniform, and Sunday in a WWII Soviet uniform. It was pretty impressive...he had the entire "kit"...not just uniforms, but all field equipment, and a Thompson, MP-40, and a PPSH-41, too. I also saw a different guy this past weekend wandering around in a British uniform, complete with skirt. The re-enactors even brought period vehicles.

73. Re-enactors attend the shoot in uniforms
FWIW On the uniform issue. I've been there.

There are a large number of fully uniformed re-enactors that attend Knob Creek.

You not only see a couple of guys in Wehrmacht uniforms with MG-42's, but Civil War Union troops with Gatling Guns and yes Soviet Cold War uniforms with full auto Soviet hardware too.

There are also people in WW II British and American uniforms with their Bren and Sten guns and Thompson's.

Sorry, it's not a political statement, any more than the people who re-enact Gettysburg and do the Confederate side actually believe in slavery. It's a costume guys not a political statement.

8. Grow up
A real nice day here, a little cool, no humidity. Decided to go to the rifle range today. Mostly guys in their 60's doing a little shooting with their grandkids. Questions asked, questions answered about loads being used, every one being friendly to each other. No racists, KKK or people wearing Nazi uniforms in the area. Just a nice day in the outdoors. What you need to do is go to a couple of different ranges, try to act like a decent guy and ask questions about the guns and ammo being used. Hell even ask if you could shoot a few, most if not all will let you. You will soon learn that most gun owners are friendly and want to help.

About a year after the Wall came down my mom, her sister, and their mom (my grandma) all went to visit Germany. None of them had been there since the 1950s and none had ever been to former East Berlin. They brought back all kinds of cool stuff.

I display East German medals on my knick-knack shelf. I guess that makes me a Commie.

49. Absolutely right
East German stuff too. Those gun shows must be crawling with Commies!

I've even seen World War II era Japanese flags and working firearms with live ammo for sale right next to them. Must be folks who haven't heard that World War II is over.

17. hoplophobes might poop themselves?
Is that really true? It reminds me of the South Park episode where Cartman discovered the sound that would make people crap themselves. How can somebody be that terrified of an inanimate object?

26. How the hell.....
am I suppose to know? He's the one with the disease. Only he can truly understand it. Isn't it funny how he sits here and says all this shit about Nazi uniforms and racism but yet he believes in strict gun control which was born from racist ideas? I was told yesterday that since the KKK was born from racism that anyone involved had to be racist. Wouldn't the same be true for gun control followers? If it was born out of racism it could never be made to be a good thing, right? I'm just glad that what I'm fighting for was born out of want for freedom.

14. Gee, dems....
It's a nice day here too.....and no percentage at all of people wandering around in Nazi uniforms here.

Jeeze, I wasn't even the person posting the article pointing out there were shitheels in Nazi uniforms at this jamboree...

As for growing up...I outgrew playing "Bang bang cowboy" when I was eight or so...

32. Hey MrBenchley...
Can you tell the difference between a "Nazi uniform" and a "Wehrmacht uniform"? There's a pretty big fucking difference...and I'd remind you that people wearing Wehrmacht uniforms tried to bust a cap in Hitler's ass....

"Can you tell the difference between a "Nazi uniform" and a "Wehrmacht uniform"? "
I'm not the one making the claim....that was the guy from the Wall Street Journal article YOU posted.

"There's a pretty big fucking difference...and I'd remind you that people wearing Wehrmacht uniforms tried to bust a cap in Hitler's ass."
But didn't do a thing but pitch in and help when Jews were exterminated and other countries were invaded...the Wehrmacht was only annoyed the little paperhanging madman was LOSING the War.

41. Your point?
Lots of countries did nothing to oppose German aggression early during the Nazi reign. Lots of countries turned away Jewish refugees. And lots of countries signed treaties with the Nazis giving into their aggression.

I love having intellegent discussions about WWII with people. Consequently, I'm not going to discuss this further with you.

"Lots of countries did nothing to oppose German aggression early during the Nazi reign. "
Gee and yet there's no mention in this article of folks dressed like Belgians in the 1940s. But there are armed lunatics wearing Nazi uniforms....

"I love having intellegent discussions about WWII with people."
Yeah? How are they dressed when you have these intellegent discussions?
