1. Another Tragedy For Indiana High School
"A teen shot to death this week attended a local high school that has experienced several violent deaths over the past 13 months.
Broad Ripple High School student William Malone, 16, was fatally shot at his girlfriend's home at the Meadows Apartments around 9 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
In May, George Saffold, a 16-year-old BRHS freshman, was fatally shot in an alley.
Also killed in May was sophomore Tasha Winters, 16. Winters, who was pregnant, was fatally shot in an alley near Garfield Park. Her unborn child also died.

2. Motorist Shot
"A 23-year-old man was shot in the leg Thursday as he drove on Interstate 5 in National City in what may have been a gang-related attack, officials said.
The wounded man drove himself to Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, where he was treated for a single gunshot wound, Gregg said.
The gunfire shut down southbound Interstate 5 at 8th Street for about 90 minutes while investigators searched for evidence, Gregg said. "

Actually, only the DISHONEST denizens of the RKBA crowd ever make that claim. And all it does is show what hysterical loonies they are.

15. What is dishonest about it?
Guns are banned supposed to equal no gun crime.

20. WRONG WRONG WRONG
A thousand times wrong, but I still don't think the information will penetrate your mind. Gun laws are meant to reduce crime. England has pretty strict gun control laws. The post cited one example of a gun crime in England. Did it cite five or ten, or 100 gun crimes? No. It cited one. I'm quite sure we could cite hundreds of instances of illegal gun use in this country on that very same day.
Do you understand the difference between a country that has one rare gun crime, and the country that has hundreds in one single day?

28. Souldn't the goal
be to reduce ALL crime, not just GUN crime. If you focus on reducing gun crime, criminals will chose different weapons but still commit crimes. If you focus on reducing ALL crime, gun crime will be reduced also.

4. Gun Owner Shoots 17 Year Old
"A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed Wednesday near a middle school in Pittsburgh's Crafton Heights section, WTAE's Jon Greiner reported.
City police have issued a warrant for 22-year-old Vincent Victor Eggleton in the death of DaVoun DeBold, who was shot around 12:30 p.m. in a parking lot on Cherry Court in the Greenway Park housing complex.
Police also said they were looking for a large, clean, white vehicle -- possibly a Crown Victoria or a Cadillac -- and they cautioned that the driver may be armed with an assault rifle. "

5. Gun Owner Shoots Two At Gas Station
"A 42-year-old man was shot at a Marathon gas station on Milwaukee's north side Thursday morning and remains in serious condition.
The victim's girlfriend suffered a graze wound. "

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ibsys/20031003/lo_wisn/1814981

Worth noting that Wisconsin is one of 32 states in which guns can be bought at gun shows without a background check. And thanks to the corrupt gun industry and the GOP, Milwaukee cannot pass any gun laws stricter than the state's.

6. Gun Owner Kills Worker
"A liquor store shooting in Conroe turned deadly Thursday when a robber demanded money from a female clerk and then beat her.
Police said the robber accidentally shot the counter and that was when another store employee -- Alfredo Hernandez, 38 -- came from the back of the store to see what was going on.
"(The robber) just turned and saw him walking up the aisle toward him and fired a round at him," Tindall said.
Hernandez died from the gunshot wounds. "

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ibsys/20031003/lo_kprc/1815707

Even had he been convicted, the gunman could have walked into any gun show in Texas and bought a gun without a background check..

21. The 24 hour rule really hurts the gun nuts
They can only come up with a few cites throughout the year, as lame attempts to support their arguments.
Excellent idea for daily threads BTW COLIB. It really makes it obvious how many illegal gun uses there are vs. the old dusty stories the NRAites like to cite.

Another family made safer by guns...

"What was supposed to be a counseling session for a man and his estranged wife turned into a murder scene.
Witnesses say during the counseling session Wednesday night, 48-year-old Saeed Sedghi of Grasonville got upset and went outside. He returned to the psychologist's office with a gun - shot and killed his wife and then turned the gun on himself. "

19. Where is the pro RKBA crowd?
On the occasions when someone stops a real or imaginary crime using a gun, the NRA and their apologists rush to publicize the event. Wasn't there any good news for "Pro RKBA" advocates today? Oh well, maybe tomorrow. Then you can try and pretend that your events outweigh all of the improper gun usages in this country.

22. Where are the birth control advocates?
It took a person to pull the trigger- why are you so hung up on the tool used? A gun in my hand isn't dangerous, why do you want it out of my hands? Should the AAA be held accountable for traffic deaths?

People die every day, some are killed by criminal misuse of firearms. I am supposed to give up my rights because our society is FUBAR?
To me, thats just more the reason I should continue to own firearms.

25. Illogical, As Usual
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 09:32 AM by Paladin
"...our society is FUBAR" and therefore....we need as many guns in circulation as possible, with few if any restrictions on their ownership and use. That's what you're saying, isn't it? Don't be bashful; most RKBA supporters get to the fucked-up and dangerous society/gotta have all the guns we want level, eventually. And it's never, ever very convincing.

If your house is on fire, do you throw gasoline on it? How consistent is your commmitment to making a bad situation worse? Just wondering.....

ON EDIT: Like Benchley, I'm looking forward to your comments on birth control.

27. Bwaaa!
"...our society is FUBAR" and therefore....we need as many guns in circulation as possible, with few if any restrictions on their ownership and use. That's what you're saying, isn't it?"

No, thats how you took it. How does removing my right to keep and bear arms equate to pouring gasoline on a fire? I have advocated project Exile, I advocate anyone that is prohibited from firearms ownership that attempts to purchase one be jailed. I advocate gun education programs.

What else can you do? The lack of interest a whole lot of so called "parents" have in rearing their children is a factor in our violence problems. Maybe we could reduce the number of sociopathic children and young adults roaming the streets. Maybe if these so called "parents" took an active hand in teaching right from wrong we would have less violence. Look at those two losers at Colombine high school. The parents had every opportunity to intervene, yet they allowed the little monsters to execute classmates. Back when I was a teen, my parents searched my belongings- they searched my room. They knew what I was up to, they would notice a growing, illegal gun collection.

Birth control would be just as effective as an attempt at gun control. There are over 200 million guns in the hands of your fellow countrymen. Guns can be made in a home shop, they can be imported just as easy as cocaine. How are you going to control that? Nobody knows how many guns I have in my home, are you advocating house to house searches? Any attempt to curb criminal misuse of firearms by making it criminal to own a gun is not logical is it now?

My arguement for birth control is just as valid as your gun control arguement. It takes a person to pull the trigger of a gun doesn't it? If you are going to allow your little angel to roam the streets at all hours of the night, allow him to own illegal firearms, allow him to live with no sense of right or wrong, maybe you ought not attempt to raise children.

30. I don't see
how showing that 6 or 7 gun owners out of 80 million gun owners really does anyting to prove that gun owners are evil/neurotic/(insert other derogatory term). What it DOES show is how desperate those that fear guns really are to prove their point. If the had more to thier argument than inuendo or smear tactics they would answer our hard questions instead of avoiding them.

32. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics
NCVS data from 1987 to 1992 indicate that in each of those years, roughly 62,200 victims of violent crime (1% of all victims of such crimes) used guns to defend themselves. Another 20,000 persons each year used guns to protect property.

The stories are out there, why most of them don't make the news is beyond me.
