Anyone ever shoot a snub nose .38?
I've always wanted too, haven't gotten the chance yet.

These pistols just have character as far as I'm concerned.

27. 10 feet?
I had no idea the accuracy left that quick.

Wow.

The longest range pistol I ever shot was a 30-30 break open single shot. I don't know if it was homemade or not. It cracked open like a shotgun. It even had a scope. You could take down, in theory, a deer with it.

A .44 - only fired on of those once. Poweful gun.

I'll bet that 30-30 you shot was a Thompson/Center Contender.

If you ever get to Michigan let me know and you can shoot one of my weapons. There is a range not far from me that is run by the county sheriff. Nice and safe. Dangerous bozo's that have no respect for the ability of guns to kill are not allowed.

66. Depends on the gun and the shooter...
a short-barreled handgun is not inherently inaccurate, but it is harder to shoot well than a full-sized handgun due to the shorter sight radius and less moment of rotational inertia (making recoil a lot snappier).

Massad Ayoob once demonstrated 80% to 100% hit capability on a B-21 law-enforcement trainer target (that's the human-sized silhouette) at 100 YARDS with several makes of off-the-shelf .38 snubbies for a legal case in which he was called as an expert witness. I personally don't own any snubbies, but my 3.5" barreled S&W 3913 9mm is accurate enough to hit a 24" steel disk 7 for 8 at a measured 110 yards from a braced position, and that's only half the size of a B-21.

At least according to the FBI. A snubnosed revolver can hit, with accuracy, most big targets that are in the same room with you.

It's an up-close-and-personal weapon. 2-2.5" barrel...good size for an ankle holster (which is why so many cops carry one as a backup piece).

28. Well, nothing says target shooting HAS TO start at 10 yards.
the concealed carry course I took in TN taught a "from the hip" shot at targets 10' away. everyone practiced that 'til we could place 3 out of 5 rounds (the J-frame smith and wessons are 5-round revolvers, anyway) in center mass without sighting. It was fun to learn. However I remain convinced to this day that if I tried to draw from a hip holster and shoot that quick I'd put a hole in my leg.

There's lots of things he probably wouldn't do.

And firing a gun, or owning a gun, does not go against peace, love, or forgiveness.

Luke 22:36-38

36He said to them, "But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. 37For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors.' For what is written about me has its fulfillment." 38And they said, "Look, Lord, here are two swords." And he said to them, "It is enough."

{English Standard Version)

Jesus told his disciples to arm themselves, so they could defend themselves when attacked. He knew their message was going to be unpopular.

Good advice for any progressive.

Guns can't have character, only people can have character. A gun can lend to the characterization of a person, but a gun in and of itself is an inanimate object.

56. Not really
I think we all do it with various objects. Maybe "character" is the wrong word, but we attach sentiments to inanimate objects. Our homes, our cars, other possessions.

As far as guns, I'm a Glock person. I used to own a Walther PPKS, but I never cared for how it fired. I liked it a lot, though, because it was a gift.

30. Feh! That's something Jack Webb would have carried.

Get with the times... go with a S&W .500 Mag (4" barrel... not exactly a "a snub nose", but close enough for shits and giggles).

63. I've got one of those
Those hurt like a sonabitch to shoot though.

I can only shoot about 15 shoots in .357 before my hand hurts to much.

But then again, its a "carry alot, shoot a little" type gun.

67. Please post all gun talk for gun talk's sake in the Outdoor life forum
this forum is intended for the discussion of RKBA issues.

If still confused, check the pinned thread at the top of the page entitled, "Where to post various gun-related topics"

Since we re-organized our forums a few weeks ago, DU now has two forums for discussions relating to Guns and 2nd Amendment issues. Each of those forums has a specific purpose. Help us keep posts on-topic in each of those forums.

Discussion of gun-related public policy issues belongs in Gun Rights & Gun Control Forum.

Personal-interest discussion about guns and weaponry should be posted in the Outdoor Life Group. By "personal interest" I mean, any discussion that is unrelated to public policy, such as: Posting pictures of guns or discussing the leisure activities of hunting or shooting.

Currently, the outdoor life group hosts discussions related to a number of outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, skiing, hiking, climbing, and camping. Members are reminded to be respectful of individuals that engage in any of these activities.
