Bolivian Exporters Fear South American Free Trade Zone
La Paz, Abr 1 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian exporters are fraught with concern over the impact of the coming free trade zone between the Andean Community of Nations and the Southern Common Market.

La Paz Exporters´ chamber managing director Jose Khun asserted the agreement would affect Bolivia, as its producers would have to compete with stronger regional counterparts.

The deal encompasses MERCOSUR member states Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, with Chile as associate, and the CAN, made up of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. A gradual liberalization of trade tariffs is the goal among the ten-member bloc.

Jose Khun stated Bolivia exported gas to Argentina and Brazil, and soy bean and by-products to Andean countries such as Venezuela and Colombia.

He stated the free trade zone would affect foreign trade sectors in which his country would compete on an unequal footing.
