Global warmig on Mars
Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 01:10 PM by LuckyTheDog
I am pretty sure that I have seen stuff debunking the idea that "global warming" is happening Mars -- and the idea that such a thing "proves" that global warming on Earth is 100% natural.

Could someone provide some links? My Googling has not turned up much so far.

I want to counter this argument with somene who keeps making it.

1. As always, start with RealClimate
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=192

Thus inferring global warming from a 3 Martian year regional trend is unwarranted. The observed regional changes in south polar ice cover are almost certainly due to a regional climate transition, not a global phenomenon, and are demonstrably unrelated to external forcing. There is a slight irony in people rushing to claim that the glacier changes on Mars are a sure sign of global warming, while not being swayed by the much more persuasive analogous phenomena here on Earth...

2. I wouldn't waste my time with someone so stupid as to argue against global warming
by talking about mars.

Don't waste your time with anyone making denial arguments, unless you truely feel they're just ignorant and capable of updating their beliefs based on new information.

There are many folks who are too weak/overwhelmed/afraid to accept the truth and therefore anything you say will be ignored in favor whatever skeptic bullshit they can lay their hands on.

3. It's a fallacouse arguement anyway.
Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 01:22 PM by booley
people argueing that there's no such things as global warming just about always use one if not all of three false asumptions:
1. If it's natural, it' s not bad.

ex-Global warming will be good. More plants will grow.

2. A natural phenomena can't be influenced by human action.

Ex. There's always been climate shifts. So Human activity has nothing to do with this one.

3. If something can occur naturally, then it can't also b e cuased artificially aswell.

ex. Since here is global warming on MARS, then human activity can't be causing it here on this planet.

So it doesn't matter if there's global warming on Mars or not.

4. I certainly hope Mars is warming up!
The way we are going here, we will need a fresh planet soon, and Mars presently is a little cool for my liking.

6. If we
we should send the corporatists and their loyal minions to mars to prep it up for us, plus they'll kill eachother off rapidly and leave all sorts of biomatter for us to use!

5. The entire solar system is heating up. But that doesn't mean we
don't impact our environment, too.
