is that a lot of people were defending this practice over in the LBN forum, and in other non-DU messageboards i visit. personally, i think it's an embarassment to canada, just like whaling is an embarassment to japan and norway.

There was a revolting picture of this on the front page of the NYTimes one day last week, it made me sick. Those poor little animals. And for what?

They certainly couldn't have a moral motivation; They're indifferent to the slaughter of civilians in Iraq.

5. Not to defend this practice

But I find it very hypocritical that most people who call this practice "sickening", "revolting", or "embarrassing" most likely will not give a second thought to biting into a nice steak, cheeseburger, porkchop, chicken nugget, etc later on today or tonight. If you are at all familiar with factory farming and slaughterhouse practices, you would realize that a club* to the back of the head of an animal that's lived it's entire life free is far more humane than the conditions our livestock are subjected to.

*Actually, the seals are more often shot than clubbed now, from what I've read, and the meat usually eaten by native Inuits and other local people instead of being allowed to go to waste.
