http://www.bnamericas.com/story.jsp?sector=10¬icia=3... Brazil will start up 914 MW of installed capacity from renewable power projects by year-end, an official from federal power holding company Eletrobrás announced.
The projects fall under the federal government's renewable power incentive program Proinfa.
"This shows that Proinfa is on schedule," Renato Sacramento, an aide to Eletrobras engineering department said during the 7th power business summit in São Paulo.
Proinfa aims to provide incentives for the installation of 3,263 MW of capacity from wind, biomass and small-scale hydroelectric sources. Under the program, Eletrobrás is committed to buying power from the 144 projects for 20 years. The projects have to start operations by January 2008.
