Natural gas mining company Talisman Energy has produced an informational booklet (PDF) selling the controversial practice of 'fracking' to children. The book, which features 'Talisman Terry the Fracosaurus', guides children through the natural gas drilling process and subtly explains the foundations of the controversial 'fracking' process to them.

The booklet talks about natural gas deposits found in the Twin Tiers area of New York State, where Talisman has maintained a heavy presence for a decade.

"Because gas is lighter than air, it will rise to the surface when set free from underground rocks," the booklet says, adding, "Once Talisman knows where the right kind of underground rock is, it works with the property owners to get permission to drill."

The booklet doesn't go into the process of fracking, which involves fracturing rock with hydraulic fluids, and which has been linked to water contamination, although the EPA has not found any evidence of such contamination. A Congressional report also found that mining companies were injecting known carcinogens into rocks holding gas deposits.

4. Not dead yet, just trying desperately to get out of the water.

I was quite taken by the little touches such as the stars & stripes attached
to the drilling derrick and the rainbow touching down in the woodland (to imply
the pot of gold being transferred to the land-owner) but my favourite remains
the line of dead trees in the poisoned swamp in the last frame.

Anyone else think that there is an unfortunate subliminal image with the
design of the wellhead icon?

To me it looks like a stern frowning face with two eyes squinting closed,
flaring nostrils and a downturned mouth ...
