Pumped 8cm (660 tons) of water contaminated by highly radioactive substances out of #2 tunnel but..
My narration: In about 12 hours it is back up to within 2cm of its original level of 93.5cm.

Quote: "The Nuclear Power Safety Agency says, This can probably be attributed to ongoing water injection into the #2 reactor." He says that "Water removal may need to continue for as long as water injections continue".
"The volume of contaminated water will continue increasing even as some of the water is transferred to other equipment."

My narration: They have cobbled together a "storage facility for highly radioactive water"; in other words a building they are modifying to hold the water they are going to pump out. "They aren't finished "checking the safety of the facility." TEPCO is "still examining its transfer plan at this point" and "will check the changing water levels carefully and reflect the results in its removal plan."

"NPSA also said thermometers rose at two sites of #3 reactors upper containment vessel. One thermometer indicated the temperature rose frrom 170C two days ago to 250C today. The agency said it has yet to identify the cause and will continue to monitor the temperature.

"Another serious worry is aftershocks...."

From NHK's English translation of news: time hack 8:04-8:06ET.

1. Not really any news there.
As long as they're pumping water into something that's leaking... it will continue to leak (and they have to keep pumping).

2. Actually there is a lot of information there.
This is liable to continue for at least three months according to PM Kan yesterday.

660 ton/12 hours = 1320 cubic meters of required storage/day x 90 days = back of the envelope 1180 cubic meters potential storage required for this input.

The storage they are planning appears from the photos to be a regular building on site they are adapting to storage. It does not appear to be a first choice solution to containing the water; which has long term implications.

For comparison an olympic sized pool is 375 cubic meters, so the scale from this input of present focus, would appear to be manageable in the short term.

That seems like good news given the nature of circumstances.

3. Information and news aren't the same thing.
This is liable to continue for at least three months

Is that a surprise to you?

660 ton/12 hours = 1320 cubic meters of required storage/day x 90 days = back of the envelope 1180 cubic meters potential storage required for this input.

You envelope is fine... your setup of the word problem is off. Take another look.

For comparison an olympic sized pool is 375 cubic meters,

And now you need a new napkin (or new resource). :)

And olympic pool is 50 meters long and two meters deep. You can't fit many competitors in the remaining twelve feet you've left them. :)

4. And that distinction is important because...

you can't find another basis for harassing comments?

You are right about the size of an olympic pool, however, which re-enforces that the volume is probably manageable over the course of 90 days if the ad hoc system works (and I would expect that to be the case) and if the warning in the broadcast about volume increasing doesn't signal a significant change and IF nothing else gets in the way of maintaining the ongoing transfer...

5. You see "harassing" where none exists.
Sorry.

I think there's a Proverb about that. :)

6. No, I don't.
You harass anyone posting information about the meltdowns at all - the inane and totally disconnected nature of your nit-picking indicates a systemic tactic to deter those not in the nuclear clique from posting anything about fukushima.

7. Of course you do. It's your constant M.O.
Anyone who disagrees with you is out to get you... and in the paid employ of the evil nuclear industry.

8. No, it isn't a paid activity.
It is, however, an organized and planned activity initially proposed by Shrub's Chief of Staff Sununu. I wouldn't doubt there areas where paid PR operations are involved (want names?) but the "foot soldiers" are organized and recruited more like acolytes of fringe religions rather than hired ad-men.

9. Nope. You just find straw men far easier to "debate". So you insist on them.

We agree on far more things than you've allowed yourself to accept... but you see knives behind you in every post.

Pretty sad really.

10. Yes that wild, unreasoned fantasy of the "grass roots initiative" organized from within an industry
Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 10:50 AM by kristopher
Were it but a fantasy...

The old, "you are the best ambassador we have..." speech when delivered by the traditionalist's father figure can be a potent motivator, can't it?

11. That's not the fantasy.
Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 10:50 AM by FBaggins
There's that need for straw men again.

The fantasy is that it isn't possible for someone to disagree with you (although virtually EVERY scientist in the field does) without being part of that "fringe religion"

Which is particularly funny given the fact that your positions more closely match those of the fringe religionists.

14. No, it will be direct action to disarm an apparatus of propaganda by a government
against its people.

That is illegal in this country.

Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 11:23 AM by FBaggins
And I'll just bet that you've got yourself a tidy little enemies list just waiting to turn over to the new regime once the real majority rises up and overthrows the evil tyrants... right?

You're warning me to watch for the knock on my door, aren't you?

Is this before or after they round up all those government propagandists pushing global warming and evolution on us? I just need to know when to pack.

I'll be safe. I've got my "Arnie for President!" poster ready to display when the revolution comes.

16. "Warning" you "to watch for the knock on your door" and "enemies list"?
No, just another case of over-eager corporate behavior crossing the line and pulling organizations that are founded and operated on different ethical standards into the corporate web of deceit. Those ethical standards actually mean something within the realms of society they are established to police. You fail to grasp that the corporate system feeding you the false constructs for fast reaction are beholden to the aura of legitimacy they derive from the legitimate academic and governmental bodies that they've co-opted. Without that patina of legitimacy, the chamber of commerce tactics being employed label the nuclear push for exactly what it is.

You are just a gnat.
