This is so fucked up. I watched Gasland last night and wanted to dig a little further. Crazy how the top link on google when I searched "Gasland" was an ad for a site run by "Joint Land Owners Coalition of NY". Their mission is " To foster, promote, advance and protect the common interest of the people as it pertains to natural gas development through education and best environmental practices." www.jlcny.org/site/index.php
Their mission is a fucking joke. Here is the way they begin to debunk the movie on the top of the linked page in bold red type...
"One glaring error in the film is the suggestion that gas drilling led to the September fish kill at Dunkard Creek in Greene County. That was determined to have been caused by a golden algae bloom from coal mine drainage, (from CONSOL Energy discharge), NOT natural gas drilling."
Nice.....it wasn't done by us the gas industry....it was those dirty fuckers in the coal industry that killed all those fish and poisoned the water.....
Then this:
Attached below are 2 reports from the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. The Commission investigated the Markham and McClure water wells, each referenced in the movie Gasland. Sample results showed that the water wells contained naturally occurring biogenic methane gas. In each case, the Commission found that the complaints were unrelated to oil and gas activities."
The gem above which was clearly shown in the movie that the people highlighted in the movie were getting no help form the local and state officials in charge of regulating the wells and the water. No fucking shit the Colorado Oil & Gas Commission found their complaints had no merit.
Then they go on to claim that" "The process of hydraulic fracturing, to which Fox appears to be making reference here, has never in its 60-year history been regulated under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). It has, however, been regulated ably and aggressively by the states, which have compiled an impressive record of enforcement and oversight in the many decades in which they have been engaged in the practice."
Which may be true but after looking up some info on the EPA's website this is what you will find...
"The 2005 Energy Policy Act excluded hydraulic fracturing from regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act • EPA has no regulatory oversight authority over hydraulic fracturing except in cases where diesel fuel* is used as a constituent in fracturing fluids"
Why the exclusion if the SDWA never had the authority to begin with and who put that little exclusion into the bill ? Who thought it would be a good idea to let the states make up their own regulations? Is it because state commissions like the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission are easier to bribe the federal officials.....sadly this is highly doubtful....So why the states? So many questions. The more I look the more I want to throw up. Govt for the people,by the people my fucking ass. The only thing that matters to these fucking people is money.
