Pipeline opens bringing biogas to Anheuser-Busch Houston brewery
A pipeline carrying biogas from the McCarty Road Landfill to Anheuser-Busch’s Houston brewery opens today, the first step in providing the beer giant with more than half of its energy demands.

The biogas captured off East Houston’s primary landfill, run by Republic Services Inc., travels through a six-mile pipeline to the brewery, where, as steam energy, it helps fuel the power plant via a system developed by Framingham, Mass.-based Ameresco Services.

”This project is truly a marquis project for both Anheuser-Busch and Republic Services” said Michael Bakas, Ameresco’s vice president renewable energy.

The project, which broke ground in March 2008 and was completed in May 2009, is part of the St. Louis-based brewery’s worldwide efforts to cut fossil fuel consumption.
