Victoria, Australia - Rural Ambulance Service Has To Switch, Park Vehicles Thanks To Diesel Shortage

Rural Ambulance Victoria says a shortage of diesel caused two of its ambulances to almost ran out of fuel this week. Low supplies forced ambulance crews to abandon some vehicles in Swan Hill and Morwell this week, and replace them with others.

RAV's Neil Akers says the ambulance crews followed standard procedures.

"If the nightshirt vehicle does a lot of kilometres and is getting low on diesel, and they're not able to fill up in the town, they'll park that ambulance and use the spare vehicle in the branch for the rest of the night", he said.

"Then in the morning, both vehicles can be filled up with diesel, said Mr Akers. He says the ambulance units were replaced, and an arrangement exists so fuel can be ferried to units that run-out.
