Conergy plans $2 billion wind farm

GERMAN solar energy group Conergy plans to build a $2 billion wind farm in NSW as part of an aggressive push into the Asia-Pacific.

The proposed development would be Australia's largest wind project, boasting as many as 500 turbines that would generate about 1,000 megawatts of electricity, according to the company's wholly-owned subsidiary Epuron.

...

Mr Durran said construction of the wind farm was expected to begin in 2009 and would take three to four years to complete.

It would produce 300-400 megawatts of electricity in its first phase.

It is claimed that, on completion, it could reduce Australia's greenhouse gas emissions by 3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.

Hamburg-based Conergy has about 15 per cent of the solar energy market in Australia.
