2. I have no doubt that corporate contributions played a role...
but the real problem is that the people elected to hold office had deregulation and "free" markets drummed into them for most of their adult life times. "Government is bad" is a philosophical state of being, part of their belief system, along with "the markets can best regulate themselves" and "sophisticated investors are far better at determining the value of a complicated derivative than some regulator", etc, etc.

The whole Ayn Rand/Milton Friedman/Alan Greenspan pile of dogshit.

And the core belief of the economic libertarians of the repuke party.

Money only helped grease the skids and removed any impediments (any note of caution sounded by a Democrat).

Republicans are wrong about economic policy.

Republicans are wrong on foreign policy (the neocon takeover).

Republicans are wrong on domestic policies (From A to Z).

Wrong Wrong Wrong Wrong, Wrong wrong Wrong Wrong.
