Poll question: Can we help the poor
There are a certain amount of poor, the vast majority to be frank, that can not improve their financial situation. Higher gas prices reduces their standard of living. Should we put a severe tax on gas and do what

1. what a POS poll!
"the vast majority to be frank, that can not improve their financial situation"

condescend much? Oh wait, that's the typical *I've got mine, Fuck you and your problems* American anthem that is sooo prevalent nowadays.

Of course, none of the options you offer address any of the REAL issues the poor have to deal with, like food, clothing and shelter.

Instead, it's on an issue YOU deem important -- the price of gas.

3. Look again
Perhaps you did not see this "Higher gas prices reduces their standard of living" . My poll is very important to see if people have any sympathy

about how high gas prices are reducing the poor to third world standards.

"the vast majority to be frank, that can not improve their financial situation" And if you don't believe this then you are saying they choose to be

poor. I did not say may not I said can not . There is a very important difference.

9. It is very
It is very important to reach you. My poll is very clearly looking for what amount of sympathy there is for the poor. The price of gas is now the

3rd most expensive item on poor peoples budget. I wish you would read it again and comment again.

2. How about creating some real jobs.
Cause a "retail economy", as I predicted, creates more "working poor".

Or perhaps you think progressives are all about handouts???

4. My guess =
you have never been poor.

I have for great lengths of time and it sucks. There was not a lot I could do about it but any help that I got was really appreciated more than anyone will ever know.

I am not "poor" financially any longer however but I am living at just above poverty level due to circumstances beyond my control.

However, I have riches far beyond anything that most people have in life that cannot be bought, sold or have a price tag placed upon them.

I am frankly offended by this "poll" of your.

7. Miss interpretation
I think that they just got the wrong idea. I think they interpreted "can not" as "chose not to"

8. I like the credit card idea because they can be used automatically...
at the pump -- no other human has to be involved.

I lived in poverty while growing up, and I remember not taking the free lunch in school because I didn't want people to look down on me. Instead, I didn't eat lunch. Poor people can be very proud people (and have every right to be), and it can really be humiliating to have others judge you. The credit card would take away that humiliation.

I no longer live in poverty, but I'll never forget how it felt. :(

11. High Public Transit Prices Probably Hurt the Poor More
Edited on Mon Jan-05-09 01:17 PM by AndyTiedye
If we jack up the gas tax, there should be some offset for poor people, but
they should also be allowed to use that for public transport, not just gas.

13. No we can not help the poor...
gas prices are going to go back up, and the prices of everything else will once again go up. The vast majority of us will not be able to improve our financial situation, so our standard of living will put us more on a par with the poor. I think that many people who consider themselves 'middle-class' are in denial of the fact that they too are 'poor'.
