Which Are the Weakest U.S. Banks?
A great analysis from "the Big Picture" shows which banks are truly imperiled. Is your bank on this list?

1. It says my browser is incompatible with it so I couldn't look.
I am especially interested in Regions and Synovus. If you go back to that site, could you look them up? I know Regions is based in Birmingham and Synovus in GA.

3. The program is incompatible with Safari or Firefox
so I used my husband's computer and got on. It was interesting that Synovus was rated a U, which they say they give to very few banks but they didn't have enough information to rate it and there would be a new rating in September. I checked Citigroup, which I know is close to belly-up, and they had a U also. Don't know if that's relevant. Synovus has a decent rating on bankrate but I noticed that one of the banks had a good rating with them on the day they were closed by FDIC. Anyway, thanks for posting the site.

5. The latest on Synovus
Associated Press
S&P affirms Synovus ratings, but lowers outlook
Associated Press 09.03.08, 1:48 PM ET

NEW YORK -
Credit ratings agency Standard & Poor's on Wednesday affirmed its counterparty credit rating on regional bank Synovus Financial Corp. and its subsidiaries, but revised its outlook to negative from stable in light of S&P's broader review of U.S. regional banks.

P.S. I do not trust the ratings at Bankrate (and I believe you feel the same way).
