Someone once said that ignorance is the greatest enemy of democracy.

First, many "Christian fundamentalists" are perhaps living vicariously through Bush and will accept him irregardless of how a bad president he is. Do these individuals care the danger the Iraq war has placed on the Christian minority in Iraq? Do these individuals recognize the incompatilities between the neoconservative philosophy of the Bush administration and the teachings of Christ?

Second, according to some polls 40% of the US population believe there is a link between 9/11 and Sadaam Hussein. The administration has never proved this. Most of the hijackers were Saudis.

I know of no other reason why Bush still should be leading in some polls. Can anyone think of others?

IMHO, he is the worst president since Grant. However, at least Grant won a war.

1. It's an argument I've had with fundies

The Chaldean christians, once somewhat protected, now face the danger of extinction within Iraq as hardline fundamentalist Muslims target them.

All the neocons have done - with Bush's blessing - is make Iraq ripe for civil war and a future breakup. Kerry will be inheriting a mess with almost no good outcome possible, which is much the same thing his father did to Bill Clinton vis a vis Somalia.

It must be in their DNA.

2. 2 reasons

some people, like my misguided former marine uncle, like the fact that bush unleashed our military might. they adore the military and have no concern for the individual soldiers. his justification is that "they knew what they were getting into...".

2nd. the other people actually believe that a god chooses sides. or that there actually is good v. evil. these people dont like thinking about sources of unrest, or cause and effect. they like a nice structured, uncomplicated world where they're told what to do and they dont have to worry about what their new ford expedition, towing thier bass boat with a 150 merc outboard is doing to the environment while they go and try to catch living mercury containers to feed to their kids on ridilin who go to public schools where theres a 25 to 1 ratio between students and teachers.

5. There must be a plethora of reasons

To me its a bell shaped curve consisting of

Corporate fascasts
wealthy eletes
religious dogmatized zealots ( and the less extreme religious obsessed )
right wing ideologues

and


less educated, non curious types who adhere to myths and false images
( among those are the ones who are motiviated by media propaganda
Their reasons may be due to :
Fear
the perception of steadfast character
the perception of identifying with the image of a man of the people
the perception that the Chimp has done no wrong

I just read a letter to the editor of our local newspaper claiming we militarily defeated Libya as well as Afghanistan and Iraq - and that our losses are far less than what we had in WW II so, its justified.

The interesting thing is the big lie about Iraq and 9/11 being linked was a key reason for supporting the war.

Go figure.

7. In all seriousness

I think people want to believe what the president says. I think many people, for some strange reason, actually do view him as being down to earth, sort of like one of them, only smarter he does have a higher education - or at least was exposed to one). I think he gets a ton of mileage out of the good ole boy routine.

Plus, if you look at some people's reasons as to why they are voting Republican they will recite the mantra of Saddam and Osama being one and the same. Republicans have been very successful in blurring this line. The lie was told often enough by enough people that it's starting to sound true.

9. Its easier

The fundie Christians I know, have their mind set because its easy. You never have to think, you just follow the guide lines as your religion told you to. The most amazing thing about "fundies" is how they pick and choose what chapter/verse to follow. So, Christ is the savior (new testament), but capitol punishment is OK (old testament), which Jesus said was wrong in the new testament. This happens over and over and over again. Their is nothing as fun as arguing with a fundi when you know your Bible chapter and verse (thank you for that Catholic elementary education, I to can quote and cite.)

This is all Bush's fault. If he would not have pushed them they would not have been forced to do what they did.
