OTTAWA -- The Canadian Alliance is poised to lose official opposition status in the next federal election and be replaced by the Progressive Conservatives, says Ekos pollster Frank Graves.
The Alliance has consistently held the support of only about 11 per cent of the Canadian population for the past year and are "offside" on almost every issue mainstream Canada supports, Graves said.
And with Liberal leadership front-runner Paul Martin a good bet to win the next election, many Alliance "swing" voters are more likely to cast their vote for a new Grit government after a decade of disillusionment with a party that has failed to deliver a national alternative. About 34 per cent of Alliance supporters consider the Liberals a good second choice vote, he added.
